A cheap laptop with 16GB of RAM? Darn.
This isn't sold in the warehouse. It's a blue page that is online only. Advertised at $250 off the $700 price ($450) but their price changed about a week ago to $650 so the $250 off takes it down to $400....pennies ignored
Oh, very subtle detail (blue vs. white page) that I missed. I almost went to the warehouse to buy it so thanks so much for pointing out.

I thought gen 2 3.2 type c would connect to external monitor via docking station. So what type of port do we look for if we need to connect to external monitors?
The port must support DP-Alt mode. The USB specification has nothing to do w/ video per se except for USB4 will carry it, just a few devices with that and TB3 (thunderbolt 3) will also carry it.

I have seen a lot of Dell lower end laptop have an HDMI port and they use that for external video

Thanks..This helps..none of the recent <$500 laptops deals seem to have the DP-Alt mode.. the wait continues . I need one to connect to dual monitors via USB-C docking station.

While I am far from an expert I think there is some confusion here.

Reading the cablematters article, DP Alt Mode allows you to connect your laptop directly to a Display Port monitor - it basically lets you use the USB-C port as a display port where the physical connector is USB-C so no docking station involved.

What you seem to be describing is connecting your laptop to a docking station via USB-C and then that docking station would be connected to two monitors. That configuration does not require DP Alt Mode because the USB-C port is being used to transmit data to the docking station, the docking station is doing the work of converting the data into video signals (either HDMI or DP).

I don't see any reason why you can't use this laptop with a generic USB-C docking station that can support two monitors like this : https://www.amazon.com/Dell-452-B...B071YTQBXM

Note that there are custom docking stations for various Dell laptops but there doesn't seem to be any that specifically support this laptop so you need to stick with generic ones like the D6000.

Disagree on Mac. I had a $2000+ MBP from my work and I couldn't stand it. Battery life and trackpad were awful. Overheated very fast the moment Zoom started. Everybody overhyped it so much.
Very odd. Even a base config MacBook Air for me at work was more than enough for basic office work and outputting to an external monitor running stupid amounts of Chrome tabs.

This or ($400) Dell Inspiron 15 laptop: Ryzen 7 5700U , 15.6" 1080P - 16GB, 1TB SSD from dell.com ?
1335U is faster than the 5700U. 1335U's integrated GPU also has hardware AV1 decode while the 5700U's doesn't, which might sometimes be important for media playback though it's not too big of a deal.

This or the Asus Vivobook I got a few weeks back from best buy? I know this one has 16 gb ram vs 12 gb but the Vivobook seems to have a better CPU per passmark.
(vivobook has 16" 1920 x 1080, Ryzen 7 R7-5800HS, 12GB DDR4, 512GB SSD)

It'll mainly be used for accounting work and some low-end gaming.

this laptop sucks. I just got it and the fan runs at full speed opening just a few tabs on Edge and having a couple of applications open. Build is very cheap, so it truly is a $400 laptop not a $650 marked down to $400 like the price suggests. Can also confirm no backlit keyboard.

Will be returning this.
