Video Editing on Win 10 in 2024

3,479 79 March 17, 2024 at 11:54 AM
MS changed the photo editor features and brought in ClipChamp.
ClipChamp does not work without MS account.
Besides I need to remove sections from the video - its just segmenting into a separate piece instead.

Is there a free tool to remove sections?

Update:
mp4 or AVI formats

Short answer - yes.

Long answer - need to know what format video file, what you're trying to do (sounds like you just want to splice - cut and then join, that's pretty basic).

Without more details, I'd point you to tsMuxeR [videohelp.com]. It's easy to use:
  • Start on Input tab, select Add, add your file
  • Switch to Split and Cut tab, select your settings, then Start Muxing
  • Go back to Input tab, clear the old file and add the new files you want to join
  • Select your output file settings and Start Muxing

Again, it depends on the type of file you're working with, there's not a one-size-fits-all solultion to the best of my knowledge but I think tsMuxeR covers most of them for simple cutting and joining.

How to deal with *.ts format? Does it save on a different format?

ts is just a container format, meaning it holds both video and audio. Looks like tsMuxeR will work with most file types for input but only output option is ts.

My suggestion would be give it a try as it's simple to use, but obviously the client on which you want to play the end result will have to support ts files or you will have to convert. And if you have to convert, there's likely a better solution. What are you playing the final results on?

I suggest you head to VideoHelp and use their search tool. For example, here [videohelp.com] is the search result for 'cut mp4.' First result looks like it will handle the cutting for you, next you would need to find something to join with.

Similarly, you can search for 'cut AVI' as well as 'join mp4' and 'join AVI' and you should be able to easily find some free programs that fit the bill. There are tons of them.

I'm using Hitfilm, but it doesn't like my input files (Channels DVR recordings) so I run them through Handbrake first.

I use OpenShot Video Editor [openshot.org]. It should do everything you need and output into multiple formats.

Not that I know of, for free. What I do is use Word or Writer (in OpenOffice) and jot out whatever I want then Save As or Export As a PDF. That is to create new PDFs. To edit existing ones, I don't have a free app I use. I don't have a need to edit PDFs though so I'm not the greatest source.
