This model doesn't meet the FAA's newly enacted Remote id requirement, but luckily it's out of scope for that requirement so long as you fly it as is with no added weight (and with the included regular sized batteries).

Prop guards or other add ones will tip this over 250g and require you to have a remote id beacon on it during flight. Officially... - as of 3/16/24.
Seems like this is $300 brand new. Even with the 15% coupon, doesn't seem like that great of a deal for refurb?

Can anyone with experience comment on the quality of this vs. similar price competition? Looking to find a small drone to start out with aerial photo and video.

Sounds like a mini model like this doesn't need to be registered or need an FAA license?
DJI refurbs are basically DJI new. I'd grab it and save the $50

Want to get one to get some aerial shots while we are out fishing on the boat... Once the battery needs to be recharged, will it just automatically land in the water or can I turn that option off so I can land it manually in the boat? I read something saying they return to where they took off from, but on a boat, you are constantly moving, so wondering how that would work. Never had a drone and this seems cheap enough to get some neat shots to share with family and friends of our fishing adventures.

I think the move here is to go add DJI Care for $30 a year up to two years. Two years, $300 you are as insured as you can be with a beginner drone. $29 replacements if you can send the drone back. $115 for full replacement. That's a pretty affordable way to get into a drone like this I think. Unless the new ones are that much better.

Thanks for the info. Will I be able to fly in a location with no cell service? I would be able to update the drone before the trip, but the lakes I will be fishing are way out in the middle of no where and have zero cell service. Is an internet connection required to fly? Thank you

Looks like this comes with an additional battery and the carry case?

Data not required to fly. You can cache the map. I find the map no use.

I bought one of these at Costco a few years back and have enjoyed using it around the house and on vacations. The software is great and easy to use. If you're looking for an introduction to drone photography this beats a low end knock off. I did buy a collar that goes around the drone to protect the blades.

Would you recommend this for a beginner or one with a built in screen on the remote?

To the drone experts - is this a better deal than the REI deal from a couple of days ago ( New SE with only one battery and no case for $229). I'm thinking about returning the one from REI and buying this.

Can you add Dji care to a refurbished unit?

this also comes with an extra battery, case, and a few other minor accessories that the $300 new ones don't
