I don't need another grill.. I don't need another grill.. maybe I need another grill
Bought this grill several years ago, when they were clearing them out at the end of season. Paid $39, at Walmart, but would not hesitate to pay $100. This is a great little grill that has a lot of versatility for grilling and smoking. This will blow your regular compact grill out of the water. Still have it, and have not had any issues.
I used metal conduit on over the legs to make mine regular height

Specifically, I ran 1/4" x 1/2" high-temp gasket around both the primary opening and ash pan. Leave the factory-installed gaskets on. These "factory shorts" work great and 10' is more than enough for the entire job.

Then I picked up a small tube of high-temp RTV sealant and ran it around the gap where the top damper meets the main body top. I also removed the bottom slide damper, removed the factor sealant, and ran a small bead of the same RTV around its perimeter.

These steps pretty much guarantee the only airflow in and out of the smoker is via what you dictate with the upper and lower dampers. You can really dial those temps in.
Would you agree that this works better as a smoker or low temp cooker?
It seems to me that getting this to "grill temp" takes a while unless you are cranking the coals. One trip through my chimney starter isn't gonna do it.

I use it almost exclusively as a smoker. The only times I've taken it to even 400* are when I seasoned it prior to first use and then occasionally when I crank it up after a smoke to grill a package of sausages or hot dogs.

I really have no experience getting it to pizza or steak-searing temps, but I've seen a few videos of it getting up there, so I know it can. Just can't speak from any personal experience.

Lit like up today. Had absolutely no issues getting over 500 degrees wide open and then closed the vents down and it's held 450 for 1.5 hrs and still going

Just got it and used good sized lump charcoal to do the burn in. Left the bottom and top vents fully open and walked away. Came back and the temp was up to 600 degrees. Can't wait to sear some sous vide steaks at that temp.

What size conduit? And is it really stable with them?
