Note: While this will now be the standard T-Mobile Connect plan at this price tier, due to overwhelmingly positive feedback and high interest from the community in the new upgrade from 3.5GB to 5GB of data monthly (previously announced as a jump to only 4GB), we have promoted this offer to the Frontpage for light data/mostly-WiFi users to consider.

T-Mobile offers their T-Mobile Connect Prepaid Wireless Service Plan w/ Unlimited Talk & Text + 5GB Data for $15/month (plus taxes & fees). Purchase of a SIM Card Starter Kit for $10 (one-time cost) may also be required.

Thanks to community member picframe for finding this deal.

  • 5GB of data per month (domestic)
  • 100MB domestic roaming data

Notice my $15 plan up from 3.5GB to 5.0GB this March. ( it was supposed to be extra 500MB a year til 2025 ) Other than that, same old Global Wifi-calling, ESIM support, unlimited voice/msg.. nothing more......

If you dont feel like paying big chunk at once, this is not a bad deal. Plus, you can change plan on the fly ( such I go down to $10 before I travel oversea or switch to $25 plan for my summer outdoor activities - all via website without talking to CSR )

$30/month 100minutes 5GB is terrible.
"without talking to CSR"

Golden comment the idiot MBAs working at all these corporate headquarters haven't figured out the importance yet.
It's a hard cap. But you can easily top it up, if needed. For example, top up by $5 gives you an additional 2GB.
I have been on T-Mobile connect for the last 1 year and it has been great for me.

interesting about being required to offer it.

Is there other differences? Like is tmobile prepaid in a higher data prioirty than connect is?

Is there strange roaming differences? Or one doesnt have voicemail?
No different, same data priority QCI level 6 as Magenta or Essentials.
Mint on other hand, is lower priority at QCI level 7.

Connect is the same as post paid and Tmobile Prepaid. It's no frills. There is no Tmobile Tuesdays. It has visual voicemail. The service is identical. It went from 3.5GB to 5GB this month. Tmobile bumps data each year. It was supposed to be 500mb per month but they bumped it up this year to 5GB.

Do you see the option in your account to change plans to connect? That's how I did it. Same account, different plan for me.

Can anyone give me a good reason why I shouldn't convert my existing Metro By T-mobile $30 including tax (unlimited talk, text, 6gb) plan, into the $15 Connect by T-mobile plan? TIA

I can only speak to a) MLB promotion and that's a no because that's gotten from T-Mobile Tuesdays which T-Mobile Connect doesn't have.

why even get postpaid anymore?
Priority data
Usually unlimited data
Perks (free Netflix/Hulu/AAA/free plane wifi/etc)
Subsidized phones and insurance options
Streaming not downgraded to 480p
Talk to an actual csr for issues unlike some such as visible
Corporate/business discounts depending on what company you work for

Generally speaking, if you have multiple lines, you can get close to same rates. I am grandfathered into 4 unlimited lines with 10gb hotspot for $100/mo. -$5/line for autopay =$80. If any line doesn't go over 2gb, I get another $10/off for each line. So bill is $50-90/mo depending on data usage when adding taxes/fees.

Not saying there isn't value here though. For single line, and if you don't want/need the perks, it can be a great tradeoff, but if you have a family plan with 4+ lines, post paid seems to almost always make more sense.

If I signed up for an account today, and ported my number, but didn't activate it for a few weeks, the porting process and cancelation of my current plan won't start until I actually activate the new account, correct?

I don't believe there is charge. But just call them to double check.
As for 5G, Tmobile don't call it UW, but UC instead. ( yes, Tmobile Connect will get UC as long as your area and phone support n41/n71/n260/n261 - pending area )

Just a thanks to the OP and everyone here who has added information to the thread. I made the switch to the $15 a month plan from an obsolete T Mobile prepaid one. It all went smoothly, I hope, online at their site once I figured out which links to hit. The new plan does not activate until the next billing cycle of the old one. I have a balance in the existing account thanks to buying Target prepaid cards from their last deal and I'll be watching to see if the money transfers over. Again, thanks to everyone who contributes here. I can't imagine life without this great site.
