Tried using the filler item deal on the $900 oled monitor. Man that one is locked behind no deals. I can't even use my 10% off code on that monitor

Great monitor based on review for office work. It was consider but ended with Acer 28" IPS because needed that +1" for native resolution from BH at $200.

What is the impact of the +1 inch? And how is the monitor at only 300 nits brightness?

I'm a developer and use 27" QHD monitors, which is fine for my older eyes. I'm curious what that would be like to use something like Visual Studio on a 4K 27" monitor, even with 125/150% font scaling. Too small icons, text, etc.? Does the scaling defeat the purpose of having 4K? I won't be using this for gaming, pictures, movies, etc. Strictly office stuff.

Any other developers with real-world experience that can give their opinions would be greatly appreciated.

not wasted.

text is super sharp. but some old apps don't scale well, and that's the main issue.

I am like you, I have qhd monitors and 4k in another pc. There is a difference, but not worth the upgrade. Text looks slightly better maybe 10%. I would save and upgrade to an ultra wide 5k2k and use fancy zones or get a 5k screen like the Apple ones. Scaling is a big pain unless you do whole multiples. A 5k screen is helpful there

I'm also a developer and I have three 32" 4K monitors. With 150% scaling, the text on them looks amazing. 27" would be a bit too small for me, but if it's fine for you with QHD, then 4K with 150% scaling will be exactly the same text size-wise, and the fonts will be smoother and more pleasant for the old eyes

Keep in mind that this is HDMI/Display Port only.

IMO the QHD models with USB-C hub and upstream charging around the same price are more useful than 4k on a 27" productivity screen.

The extra/clunky cables and need for a dock is a pain and adds significant cost if you don't already own one.

Not to mention the USB-C dock/hub and adapters required for this. I have a 3-monitor setup and it was a pain to find a decent hub with 3 video inputs. I ended up having to use adapters + hub to get it to work. And even then I have to reset the hub occasionally because sometimes it doesn't initialize all 3 monitors.

I had to add just over an additional $100 for my setup in the hub and adapters cost.

Thank you for your insight...this helps a lot! Maybe I should look at a 32" 4K...my eyes are not getting younger :-)

Not a developer but IT manager/sysadmin chiming in:

I have a 28" ASUS 4k and a 27" LG 4k and noticed that the 28" ASUS can go 125% and still have good workspace while on the LG, I have to go down to 100% to get the amount of data I want to show.

My layout:
Top Left - Outlook - sized about 2/3 to show all my quick steps (4 columns)
Top Mid/Right - Teams - sized about 1/4 ensuring that chat contacts are not hidden
Top Right - Task manager - sized 1/16 only showing the small graphs
Bottom Right - Chrome - sized half screen
Bottom Left - Edge - sized half screen

EDIT:
I tried 100% QHD and it's not enough for me. I'd rather 1x4k + a second FHD (or larger) monitor.

At home, I have 4k + FHD (portrait) + Laptop WUXGA. I really want a QHD in portrait as 1080 in portrait isn't very useful. Hell, even a WUXGA in portrait may be enough.

Thanks for this info. After reading your comments and the others, I think 32 4K with 150% scaling might be the better option for me and my eyes. I might erven go fancy and get a 32" curved 4K :-)
