BONUS1500 Promo code during account creation to be eligible. I've personally just gone through this today, and the promo was auto-applied, showing in top banner of each page as I went through the signup. They almost caught me to create a new Savings account too with a single click, but skipped that one. On the following screen it showed me my new account and routing numbers, along with the promo details, the code and terms listed yet again.
No published expiry date at this time.

Qualifying deposit will be judged by the balance in your account from days 15-105 of account opening. For example, if you had funded the account with $50 on day 2, but then transferred $99,950 on day 14, you're eligible for $1500 bonus back in your account by day 165 of account opening. Alternatively, if you added $20,001 on day 2 and left it there until withdrawing $2 on day 104, you will receive a $0 bonus.

Surprised that nobody in this thread even understands what's going on. For $20,000, 4.35% APY over 3 months is $217.50, however you're also getting a $300 bonus, so you're getting $517.50 for 3 months. That equates to10.35% APY.

This is the same for the other deposit amounts.
Doesn't look like it if you currently have one.
They clearly address that at the beginning of the footnotes at bottom of main deal page, listing multiple account types open with them "on or after January 1, 2022" as making you ineligible for this offer. I'd encourage all to RTFM for straightforward questions like these.
There are quite a few other High Yield Savings Accounts that don't have such restrictions and have higher rates of return. Here's a list I compiled this morning:

APY
Amex: 4.35
Sofi: 4.6, $300 bonus direct deposit
Synchrony: 4.75
Wealthfront: 5.00 (get .5 bonus for 3 months if you refer a friend)
Citbank: 5.05 (5k minimum deposit)
Texas capital: 5.1
Everbank: 5.15
Ufb direct: 5.25
Western alliance: 5.36

For 100k you would earn $5,360 per year at Western versus $4,350 + 1500 = $5,850 with the Capital One deal. If you have less than 100k to invest the other options are better.

I believe this is not a great analogy. I know many rich people who cut their lawns and do gardening. I have spoken to them and usually, I hear it gives them peace.

Millions is not rich in today's economic environment. Once you hit a certain age and a "critical event" happens govt or private programs will steal your millions and you will be left pi$$ing the same corner those who never scrimped and saved on sd are...

Anyone know when the promotion expires? I read through their T&Cs and it only references applying "on or after April 4, 2024". I need some cash that's locked in a CD until mid May to free up to take full advantage of this. Thank you!

Had to call-in to setup the account.
If you couldn't setup online, maybe give them a dial.

I'm worth around 2.5M, so there goes that entire theory.

There are two ways to get rich. Make a lot or don't spend a lot. It's extra good if you do both.
That's malarkey. You can't get rich by just not spending a lot.

After the initial application and funding, did you see anywhere on your account page any confirmation that the promo was active for your account?

I'm pretty sure I saw "promo active" when I was completing the application to open the account, but there's no indication of it now on my account page.

I'm wondering if I should be seeing something...

The Scottish people have the highest per capita rate of millionaires in the world. And that's not from income. Its common to have a groundskeeper with a few million in the bank.

You could try reading something like The Millionaire Next Door, where you'll learn many things that'll improve your comprehension.

I'm worth about $2.4M, earned while never earning more than $65K/year. I also haven't had to work since 2001.

This doesn't mean a lot without knowing a few things. A) Is that 65k before or after taxes, B) how old are you, and C) what are your expenses/where do you live?

I do agree that the other comment is completely wrong though. You can definitely stack up your money by spending less than you make.

Say you take home $65,000 a year and your monthly expenses are about $2,500. That means every year you can put $35,000 in the bank, preferably a savings account or maybe CDs or something that pays more.

After 30 years, you would have over $1,000,000 in the bank, which I'd argue (if set up right) could be earning around 5% interest in low risk CDs or something similar, making you $50,000 a year just by being in the bank.

This all assumes you are able to save that much every month though, and also that no big expenses pop up in your life, definitely plausible though.

I missed it by a day and they didn't give it to me. I stopped using all accounts with them that same day. 😂
