Chevron, Texaco, and Caltex are the companies that use Techron. If you fuel up at those places you are good to go. The fuel I buy doesn't have any additive package. I add Techron every few tanks.
On advice in the SD posts of old, I bought a gallon jug of the Lucas Oil engine treatment from Amazon. I re-up whenever it goes on super sale.
Using a squirt bottle, I refill old Lucas oil slim bottles from the gallon jug, and just use them whenever I fill up the 1997 f150.
Cheapest and highest rated additive I could research at the time, so I'm pretty happy with the method. Give it a try.

But now there are like four different kinds of products with the techron brand name. Which is most like the original techron that cleans the combustion chamber? Is this it?
I've been using Techron for my turbo gas direct injection (T-GDI) because the owner's manual recommends using it to compensate for build up. But it's been a while since purchasing, back when I stocked up, to where I'm now down to 2 bottles but I'm confused between the different techrons available for re-ordering. The type of techron that my car's manual calls for is the kind that cleans the combustion chamber. Can someone confirm this is the original-style of techron?
The Complete is BOGO at Autozone right now: https://www.autozone.co
The directions state to apply every 4000 miles but doesn't tell you anything else. Mechanics say to take the car for a long drive 20 to 30 minutes to get the solvents to disperse the carbon build up in a hot engine. Some smoke may occur out of the exhaust. Then drive to empty as soon as possible. Reapply a second time if you have a heavy build up.
The fastest method is to have your car with a couple gallons in the tank, add the entire bottle, then drive the car close to empty in one trip.

Techron Complete fuel system cleaner is the good stuff. This stuff is weaker.

Unfortunately this won't clean the valves of DI engines. You need walnut valve blasting which involves taking out the valves.
The valve chemical soaks offered by some shops don't do much of anything.

Agree. They're BOGO at O'Reillys Autoparts this week.
I thought the picture for the product is for the complete fuel system cleaner.

I would highly advise against the whole bottle with only 2 gallons of gasoline. That much concentration may have deleterious effects on your engine. The recommended amount usually is one of these bottles to a full tank (approximately 16 gallons) but read the bottle to be sure.
If you don't want to use this every so often, just make sure to use a top-tier gas. Search online for those brands that qualify. Costco gas is the cheapest around and is top-tier.
