Hold the Option key and click the Apple menu, then choose System Information.
Under the Hardware section of the System Information window, select Power. The current cycle count is listed under the Battery Information section.

I'd buy new at $399, but not open box "good" (which is likely a display model) at $372.

Drove 45 minutes to pick up my Open Box "Fair". It didnt have anything. There were some nicks on it.

The manager told me that I could call BB and they would send me a charger. He couldnt do anything because it was an Online order for instore pick up.

Picked up "Good" conditioned Open Box today, it comes without charger but with only 1 charge cycle and never activated before.

I picked up a "good" condition open box. I was labelled as "good" because of all the fingerprints and residue on the screen. It looked good as new once I used some wipes. The cable and charger were untouched and the laptop only had 4 battery cycles.

I picked up fair condition. Only the MacBook in Bestbuy box. Based on serial it says it's was purchased in Nov 2020

Cycle count is 35 and max capacity looks like 91%. 91% looks abnormal to me, anyone aware how Mac's calibrate max battery? Battery was completely dead when I picked up.

The outershell has a visible quarter inch scratch and some dings on the casing. Dirty screen and slightly dirty speaker hole.

I already have a pixelbook go and arary of windows machines and I want to try Mac for first time as main computer.

Finally picked my two "Good" laptops up at two different stores. Both have barely a mark on them, one needed a minor cleaning. They were activated in 2020 and 2021 and have exactly 52 charge cycles each. One is at 90% battery health and the other is 92%. Not thrilled, but for the price I'm probably going to keep them. They both had chargers, but one had a short aftermarket USB-C cord.

I'm betting these were displays.

I bought a used Macbook Air from private seller who was able to get the bestbuy open box for $406 including taxes on April 30, 2024 online for store pickup. He flipped it for $450 selling to me. I saw the warranty was expired using apple serial number checker, called Apple. Apple told me the device was repaired twice.(May 2022, March 2024) and were courteous to tell me it was regarding the battery.

I bought it only because battery cycle count was 1 and it looks in almost new condition with no scratches or dents but looks like bestbuy sold a 2 year used macbook device to him after replacing battery recently? Or did someone actually buy in 2022, somehow return it to bestbuy after almost 2 years and that was sold by bestbuy as open box?

Apple did not tell me if the first repair request in 2022 was bestbuy or private party for privacy reasons. Now the option key does not work that well on my macbook (works on slight hard press) but while still in return window I cannot return as I am not the original buyer and also paid more. Make sure you check yours by calling apple as I could have well been the first owner of used open box in good condition from bestbuy and been sold a 2 year old macbook air repaired twice.

Should I still keep it given that it's got 1 battery cycle and it's only $450 only or contact private seller for refund? But option key may not work too long but that key should still work for few years if I had to guess. TIA

The private seller has no reason to refund you. Since you brought it as is.

Perhaps but he has good FBMP ratings so he may possibly refund as he is still in bestbuy return window (April 30 online order but pick up May 10, sold to me may 12).

I returned mine because it wasnt an "Amazing deal". The OEM charger is like $70.

Mine came with just 1 battery cycle, I was pretty sure it was done by me after I got it. But to the comfort of my mind, mine was never activated and only so on the very day of my purchase and I am entitled to full warranty till May 2025, per Apple's website.
