I have never used the grass shear, but the shrubber is such a great time saver in the Spring.

The retail price is nuts. My mom has a Stihl HSA26 and it is $150 with a battery+charger... I'd expect the Ryobi to be a fraction of the price, not more!

It's very useful for little shaping or trimming jobs. I use it in conjunction with my (Stihl) hedge trimmer when trimming her shrubs, and she/gardener use it for some grass maintenance - not a lawn, just small areas around the garden where a string trimmer is going to make a mess of things, but shears are too slow. (I don't know that she's used hand shears since getting the HSA26, I doubt she has - I sure haven't @ her place!)
That is very kind of you to trim your mom's bushes.

I do the same thing for my STEP mom.

That's very nice of you too!

The list of projects I do around my folks place...is long! Construction, gardening, etc. They've helped me a ton at home over the years too (and mom continues to, but it has slowed as she's aged). Some years back, I spent many days over at my grandpas doing yardwork there too lol. Yay family?!

Get a Ryobi reciprocating saw. It's multipurpose from cutting down branches of trees to pvc. I just used it to trim my palms trees. I've also used that for birds of paradise as well. You can change the blades often and for the birds of paradise you can get a longer blade to trim it up.
Which blade do you use for that? I've tried the pruning blade on my reciprocating saw and it's just a disaster (though it is one of my favorite hardwork tools).

Not dissing the deal, but why are these so expensive in the first place and who the heck is buying them?
I own both. The grass shear is perfect for taking care of the grass that my string trimmer can't reach in the recessed panels of my shadowbox style fence. The trimmer was great for trimming the single little bush that we have. I bought them, and a ridiculous amount of other Ryobi equipment from DTO.

I have this tool - mainly for the edger. I think I paid this much for open box on ebay. Good deal, good tool.

Wouldn't this be good at cutting the spiral into juniper's?

Sorry - correction - hedger is what I use.

I would think so if the branch size aligns with capabilities.

we pay higher prices to offset for the dozens that are stolen everyday from their stores.
I just purchased this at a local HD and all the outdoor tools including this one were locked up now... what a shame.

Just put the last one on the shelf in my cart at my HD. Looks like it might have been a return but I'll take a chance on it for $50.

I have this. Good for very light work like cutting ornamental grasses quickly every fall but it's going to really struggle with any sort of branch/hedge type of work.
Agreed. I own this and rarely use it. Inevitably I try to cut a tiny shrub branch and it jams. so, I always wind up taking out the larger hedge trimmer.

I went yesterday to get one because my store showed they had them. They had none. I asked the manager to sell me the tool only one for $40 but he would not do it. I would have been pissed if I had not been near HD on another errand.

Is there a difference between this and a hedge trimmer?
