If anything, the current Raptor Lake fiasco is a good reason to go with a mainline OEM and negates a lot of the benefits of going with a gaming motherboard with a bunch of overclocking and power limit controls…

You can get by nicely with 32gb, no doubt. But it does depend what loads the vm will have. It's like asking do you need 16 or 32gb . Depends
