Using CPUZ to monitor temp on CPU, How do I read this?

1,511 285 May 11, 2010 at 06:44 PM
So I attached a picture of my temperatures. Which one is my CPU? I have 6 cores but whats my overall CPU temp? theres like 3. Im not sure which one to follow. The reason is because I want to start overclocking soon and want to monitor the temperature closely. thanks!

I usually look at the core temps for overclocking, because thats more indicative of the effects of overvolting. The other temps are probably mobo among others.

Max out your CPU to 100% and watch which one goes up.

Look below the red circle, where each core is listed, those are the temps you should be interested in.

Try with a few different temp programs and compare (your temps seem almost strangely low)

Realtemp

Realtemp is for intel processors only. From the looks of it, op has an AMD cpu.

Also, because coretemp is made by the same people as HWmonitor, I can't imagine that the temp readings would be any different..

The best method is to check temps in bios and comapre to program. But I agree, those temps are really low, now that I think about it. What kind of cooling do you have?

I'd have to see the BIOS core readings before I'd believe those core temps in that picture. Do you have your PC next to the air conditioning, or do you live in Alaska?

lol getting temps around 20C idle isn't that tough when you're running at stock. my i7 runs at 25C idle with the hyper 212+, and i even put the thermal paste on the CPU instead of the heatsink (which someone recommended since the hyper 212+ has an uneven bottom)

your temps seem plenty fine to OC. i'd try bumping it up by like .5 ghz and getting it stable, then higher and higher till the desired level. then lower the voltages to as low as possible while staying stable and no BSOD.

btw. can use prime95 to put all your cores at 100% load and see how they do under stress. temp wise as well as stability

Ummm...19C is 20% less (if you're basing it off 0C) than 25C. There's a big difference between the two.

20C is only 68F. 25C is 77F. Unless ambient air temp is in the teens C (an idle CPU is not going to be colder than ambient), the program is outputting incorrect temps.

Phenom X6s have problems giving accurate temps, mine regularly shows lower then ambient in HWMonitor.

I'm not positive, but I think (on my GA-890GPA-UD3H at least) that TMPIN1 is the socket temperature, which appears to be more accurate.

hey guys, 19c must have been when i first turned it on. I dont know. But I usually get around 25C on all 6 cores. never above that. Im using Hyper 212+ btw. thanks for all your help. I wont be overclocking it anytime soon as im a super noob and too scared of ruining anything. >.

Yeah, if you're planning it to OC your CPU to a higher level. which the OP is obviously not intending to bring his CPU to the extreme level yet. And he actually asked if his temps were fine, not about a 6C difference in his and my core temps which really doesn't matter since i was just giving my own experiences. k.

Actually regardless of whether you are OCing or not, 20C vs 25C on a cpu is a huge difference...especially when you get that low. Considering that its usually not possible to bring CPU temps down below ambient, you probably have a really cold room.. I don't think DryHeat was trying to personally attack you with his reponse, so don't take it as such. Sounds like you really got offended..
