well, actually multiple reasons but lazy is the primary one.

- antioxidants in tea so i try to get drink more green tea but i grew up on black so when it's chilly i do prefer black.
- i like 2 sugars in my coffee but i drink tea plain, so no calories when i drink tea
- like milk in my coffee but rarely have milk in the house. i kept one bottle of peppermint mocha coffeemate for myself since probably thanksgiving and haven't cracked it open yet. have coffee too. and got sugar on clearance at target. all circles back to being too lazy. i have made coffee a couple times at home since thanksgiving and probably had milk at home so never opened the coffeemate.

just remembered i never posted about seeing the pirates! band of misfits movie last, last friday in 3D. it was in claymation and i think 3D really added to the visual experience. there are many movies these days where i think 3D didn't add anything to the movie, even the last harry potter, but this one really made a difference. my db used to watch davy and goliath every wknd when i was growing up so i watched a lot of claymation.

cute movie, easy to understand moral message, moved at a good pace, didn't look at my watch. i recommend it for the little kids. to add a little education to the experience, i would have them find out who charles darwin is and dodo birds b4 going to see the movie. this will give more depth and background to the movie.

nod I heart my Keurig, and it seems like lately, I've actually had to sit out some sales on the K-cups because I have so many stashed away. For about 6 months, though, I used my filter every day with coffee grounds because I couldn't find deals. Even with that, it was easier than my old coffeepot, and I didn't waste any coffee.

Had to go back to bed after bringing the kids to school - had a headache that even an Aleve wouldn't take away. I think it must be allergy-related. Feeling better now, though. Wondering if I should attempt any deal shopping, or just take the day off.

I'm looking for a fruit/vegetable salad to go with sliders and french fries for dinner tonight. I'm contemplating this one [blogspot.com] but I'm not sure if its too far out for my family. Anyone have a favorite recipe they'd like to share?

I have decided to slowly wean my son off gluten. A friend who has done lots of research on nutrition and healthy eating thinks it would be beneficial (for those who might not remember, I have never had him tested, but am sure he would fall on the autistic spectrum, highly-functioning aspergers most likely). He's been struggling at school lately with not being able to focus, so I want to help him in whatever way I can. We've started with gluten-free breakfast this week, and I don't know if you can say definitively yet that its made the difference, but I will say that he has had 2 great days in a row, whereas he had 2 weeks prior of struggle every.single.day.

Our Baskin Robbins is doing family night every Tuesday night. We went last night, and man, this could be trouble! laugh out loud $1 for kids' cones, $1.50 for regular. Total of $6 for our family to get ice cream. Well, my son gets a donut because he doesn't care for cold/frozen stuff, but that's the same price. Anyway, it is within walking distance (probably 15 mins) so we'll probably do that to justify the calories. Big Grin

salad looks good. i would just tweak it so it's less far out but keep enough in so it's still fresh and different from what you normally eat.

i like salads w/ fruit in them like apples, strawberries, mandarin oranges, etc. so they're a first choice the rare times i go to panera. and i think this kind of chopped salad is better for you than lettuce salads. lettuce actually is not that nutritious compared to other veggies. so if i'm making some sort of lettuce salad i only buy either romaine which is supposed to be the most nutritious of the lettuces or baby spinach. which works out good b/c dh likes caesar salad and spinach.

even though cucumbers are also low in nutrition, i do make a cucumber salad periodically when it's really hot out. it's good to pair w/ anything rather greasy like hamburgers, steak, etc. it's pretty sour if you let it marinate for hours or overnight, so if the kiddos don't like sour you can cut the vinegar w/ water to your liking. if you just marinate for a short period of time, the vinegar doesn't have time to get inside the cukes.

Sweet-and-Sour Cucumbers
2 large cucumbers, peeled and thinly sliced
3 green onions, thinly sliced, w/ 3 inches of green tops
2/3 cup rice vinegar
1/3 cup sugar

Combine all ingredients: marinate for at least half an hour. withe a slotted spoon, serve as a salad or a garnish. Serves 4.
Nutrition per serving: 47 calories, 0.7 g protein, 12g carbs, 1.2g fiber, 0.2g fat, 4mg sodium
US Weekend, April 24-26, 1998

i use a large english cucumber and don't peel it since it's not waxed and i use the whole scallion, not just 3 inches of green. i also like to marinate for hours and think it's best overnite b/c all the water comes out of the cucumbers and all the sugar gets dissolved. they become more like sweet pickles.

"Target is phasing out Kindles [theverge.com] and Amazon- and Kindle-branded products in the spring of 2012."

They've already pulled all the Amazon (Kindle) gift cards from all the stores near me.

I have mustard on a favorite polka dot shirt that did not come out in the wash when pretreated. I did hang dry it, so I could try it again. What should I use to get the rest of the stain out?

I agree.. heart my Keurig too!

Sorry about the headache. I have had one all day myself.. But, I think mine is from lack of sleep. My DD hasn't been feeling well and not sleeping. which means no sleep for mommy!

No idea on the recipe. My family wouldn't eat it, but they are picky. I, however, think it looks good.

I think trying the gluten free may be a wise choice. It couldn't hurt and may actually help alot. I eat low carb and once I got used to not having alot of things, I learned to adapt my recipes and now I really don't mind. Alot of it just depends on finding alternate recipes to make things you like. I have ordered lots of new products from amazon lately.
hug hope it makes a huge difference!

Thanks, I need to put DH on this. He actually wants to replace the desktop upstairs, even though I think it is kinda a waste since we all have laptops. And, I gave you a big thumbs up Smilie

What is the advantage or difference can you tell me?

Did you try soaking overnight? Sometimes with tough stains I will soak in a little detergent overnight and try again. Sometimes it will just lighten each time.

This has been a crazy week.. Missed part of Monday because my DD was sick. Then yesterday on my off day, she was fine.. Last night she was up coughing at 4 am.. I ended up dozing for a few hours on the couch after I got her back down. Now, my back is killing me.. When she woke up today, she was complaining and crying with an earache. Poor baby cried for about 2 hours. Took her to the pediatrician and both ears are infected, plus her chest congested.. We ended up with ear drops, antibiotics and some mucinex. Getting her to take them is always a pleasure as well *sigh*
I just want some sleep tonight. Hoping DH will volunteer to watch her some tonight so I can rest.

we need a new desktop b/c the current one isn't functioning that well and dh does not want a laptop as our primary. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

supposedly 2 stores nearby have stock so had dh take a look and he used some website his former coworker recommended to compare it and said it seems good. too late to go buy it tonite so will try tomorrow.

i use zout. i've noticed if it's been sitting around for awhile (couple yrs) it's not as effective, but when it's fresh it's amazing. if that doesn't get the stain out then i use oxi-clean.

I have always had good luck with Dawn dish detergent on food-based stains. Just the plain blue detergent. Might take a couple tries, but it almost always works.

I ended up going with a fruit salad, but will definitely be trying both the one I linked and the one slowtech recommended. Just thinking about going gluten-free has changed my mindset about how I arrange/plan different meals. I want to head in a more natural direction, with more emphasis on fruits and vegetables, as opposed to carbs. It'll take some getting used to for the kids, but I think they'll adjust.

My son has had 3 days in a row where he's done well at school, and that just means so much to me. I can tell he feels better about himself and, well, you know what that does to a mama's heart. heart And last night, he was saying things in the van, communicating in a way he really hasn't before. Granted, this could all be "coincidence", and not related to removing gluten, but I'm happy either way!

Off to brew my second cup of coffee!
