Quick question:

If a coupon is good through a certain date does it work on that date? If its good through Jan 7, will it work on Jan 7th? Is this the same as saying it expires on Jan 8th?

Technically, it's good until midnite on the date of expiration. Some stores will accept expired Q's, but it's a huge YMMV and I always ask first.

Should work with no problems. Like stated above I have had some stores accept expired coupons (Target, Walmart to name a few). Alot of times the person working the cashier usually are kids and don't really care.

Using expired coupons, unless the store expressly states they will accept them, is fraud. The terms & conditions are clearly stated on the coupon and violating them in any respect makes the coupon invalid. These "kids" can lose their jobs if they accept expired coupons and the company cannot redeem them. If they are LUCKY, the cashier only gets their pay docked for the amount of the coupon(s).

OP, yes the last day to use the coupon is the date printed.

I think the preposition "through" is synonymous with "up to and including"

I don't think it is fraud. If the store does not want to accept it, then the cashier should say sorry, we can't take expired coupons. Do you think that the coupon that you use on Nov 7, 2010 that expires on Nov 7, 2010 will get to the manufacturer on that date? It doesn't. They will never even know when the coupon was used. Plus, coupons go through a clearing house so it can take months before the coupons get from Target to the manufacturers. Also, military families are eligible to use expired coupons with some places accepting up to one year expired coupons from mil. fams. So, if they can be accepted from them, then logically, anyone using an expired coupon within a realistic time frame from the exp date is fine. IMO

Using the coupon in any way that goes against the wording is illegal, period. You are personally committing fraud which is punishable by law. There are some states (from 3 months to indefinite) and military (up to 6 months) where that does not apply, but if your location does not follow those laws then yes it is breaking the law. A cashier is pushed pushed pushed to get customers out ASAP. It's not that they don't care or are willing to take an expired coupon, they are trying to keep their job by getting you out the door asap. Most registers are not set up to read the coding for expiration dates and the cashiers are told to hurry you through. In many locations the drawer is counted and coupons verified at the end of the shift. If expired coupons are taken in, it comes out of their pay and/or they get written up. No matter what the clearing time is through the clearinghouse, it's what happens at store level that matters. If your coupon is expired send it on to someone who can use it legally as expired or throw it out.

Coupon fraud hurts us all, there isn't a "gray area". I have been couponing and rebating for over 25 years now. Coupons used to never expire, they used to be for great amounts, and rebates were plentiful and easy to come by. Fraud, especially since the time of the internet, has created major changes in couponing/rebating (and not for the better). If everyone makes their own rules about what is "ok" it goes downhill fast. shake head

huh?
coupons don't say any of those things.

coupons are self explanatory.

it says:

EXPIRES 1/7/2011

if it's 1/7/2011 it's not expired
if it's 1/8/2011, it is
