Maybe T-Mobile's 3G/4G network requires the 1700 band in many areas, which means only 2G / EDGE speeds will work. But some areas are starting to get 3G on the 1900 band: http://www.phonearena.com/news/T-Mobile-turns-on-3G-coverage-for-unlocked-Apple-iPhone-models-in-some-areas_id24870

Yes Use any handset with 4G in the name if you are unsure. 3G handsets can be purchased on tmobile.com/prepaid like the Optimus T.

YMMV... the T-mobile store will give you a card and activation kit for free. Or just buy online, currently on sale for only $0.99.

Buy any Tmobile prepaid phone at a retailer ~$20 and activate online. Buy a SIM card from Tmobile.com for $8.

Of course your speeds vary by your location (so you should go for the provider who offers the best bang for the buck in your home & travel areas), but T-Mobile's HSPA+ implementation is just as fast, and in most cases, faster, than Sprint's WiMAX implementation. Oh, and by the way, Sprint's WiMAX is just as "3.5G" as T-Mobile's HSPA+.
Now I just have to figure how to get out of my ~$70/mo T-Mo contract and into this. Great deal.
I get 5000kbps down and 1500kbps up with my Nexus S 4G and my friend's Sensation 4G is getting 2500kbps up and 1500kbps down
Anyway, nothing is worse than AT&T. My wife's iphone is very dead 9-5 on Wall St.

I don't understand a lot of this phone lingo I have an old Blackberry Storm that we purchased through Verizon. Will that work with this plan?
No, you need a GSM phone to use it on T-Mobile network, right now you have a CDMA phone (totally different and incompatible technology).
Go to horizon wireless and find an unlock code for your device, and it should be usable. You won't get 3g on your device, but it should work on t-mo with edge speeds if you unlock it.
