Maybe T-Mobile's 3G/4G network requires the 1700 band in many areas, which means only 2G / EDGE speeds will work. But some areas are starting to get 3G on the 1900 band: http://www.phonearena.com/news/T-Mobile-turns-on-3G-coverage-for-unlocked-Apple-iPhone-models-in-some-areas_id24870

Yes Use any handset with 4G in the name if you are unsure. 3G handsets can be purchased on tmobile.com/prepaid like the Optimus T.

YMMV... the T-mobile store will give you a card and activation kit for free. Or just buy online, currently on sale for only $0.99.

Buy any Tmobile prepaid phone at a retailer ~$20 and activate online. Buy a SIM card from Tmobile.com for $8.

Not true,
are you making things up telling lies? you clearly are...many people in this thread have done what i have done.
whats with you putting words in my mouth? you are all over the place overlooking/over thinking the subject...
maybe post 18,000 more times....take a break from SD
The whole point of allowing porting phone numbers was to establish that phone numbers belong to the customer, not to the carrier. By and large it is NEVER illegal to port your number to another carrier. The issue with this plan is that it is not generally allowed to cancel an existing line and move the number to this plan, because that is not a NEW activation. Keeping your number is not the issue, it's the fact that you're trying to bypass their "new activation" restriction.
And he is correct that porting is only really meant when you switch from one provider to another. It's not really "porting" if you're switching within the same company and transferring from postpaid to prepaid. That's just plan swapping at most.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with calling and asking on whether they may say yes or no on the situation.
Now stop arguing about it you guys.
For $30 per month this plan is great aside from the 100 minutes limitation. Groove IP seems to work ok on wifi or 4g as long as Im not driving.
Just because you personally managed to have the account swapped over does not make it the norm. Otherwise everything could be considered a YMMV situation. For example, if I managed to score a $100 per month credit for my cable service, that doesn't make it a YMMV situation, it's a fluke (or a scam).
So happy with my Galaxy Nexus on this plan.
Just installed Roam Control so they can cancel my line ETF free, So long sprint!!!

sure it may vary if you are a pushover type of P word...i tell CS what i want not ask them.
ya 30 post newbie telling people what they can and can't do...what a JOKE.
Congrats to you forcing the CS to do what you wanted. But thats not standard procedure and not all CS reps are the same, you mostly get those that don't want to bend any rules. I just feel it is easier to not go through the hassle of trying to convince the CS to do that and being on the phone for hours and wasting time.
I tried to keep my old T-mobile number from a contract plan and it was just too difficult and even after having to update my number in profiles and accounts for banks and stuff, I wouldn't want to deal with Tmobile CS from India ever again.

Conflicting reports everywhere. When I had my G2x, I only got a max of around 7 mbps.. so I am assumg that it's a 14 mbps phone.
port to At&T prepaid. Give a few days for number to port fully, then port it back to Tmobile as a new activation.

Does it really work if I order the simcard activation kit on tmobile.com? How are they connected to Walmart? How do they know?
Where could I get cheaper refill cards?
