Maybe T-Mobile's 3G/4G network requires the 1700 band in many areas, which means only 2G / EDGE speeds will work. But some areas are starting to get 3G on the 1900 band: http://www.phonearena.com/news/T-Mobile-turns-on-3G-coverage-for-unlocked-Apple-iPhone-models-in-some-areas_id24870

Yes Use any handset with 4G in the name if you are unsure. 3G handsets can be purchased on tmobile.com/prepaid like the Optimus T.

YMMV... the T-mobile store will give you a card and activation kit for free. Or just buy online, currently on sale for only $0.99.

Buy any Tmobile prepaid phone at a retailer ~$20 and activate online. Buy a SIM card from Tmobile.com for $8.

I bought my S3 from local Tmobile corp store when tmobile website was selling it for $650.
(I know you can't order without the plan but it says regular price is $650).
I called some tmobile corp store and some wanted $650 and some said $620. But some insisted I need to activate at least prepaid monthly 4G plan.
So I went to the tmobile corp store near my work and asked how much. he said $600...
Paid $653 with tax and walked away without giving any personal information.
I don't really understand people are bidding more than $650 for tmobile S3 on ebay...
I have a few more days left on this last month of my ATT cycle so I really need to test the hell out of TMO and wifi calling. Is the best combo for wifi calling grooveip with google voice? There are so many voip apps, I dont know where to start.
Also which voip apps allow you to select your own caller id number when placing outgoing calls?

Skype (best quality, not so good app), and Vonage (good app, OK voice, free) allow you to set your TMobile number as the caller ID. Other options, don't even bother, unless you are on wifi.

I will most likely be using WIFI for most of the time I am on voip. So I see skype is $3 per/mo. Can vonage be used for regular voip, or is it app to app like the vonage site says? Can you suggest any other apps that work good with WIFI? Currently going to use talkatone.

My rating for the apps is as follow:
1. Skype
2. Vonage
3. GrooveIP
Talkatone and other voip apps didn't work good for me when I tried it.

Pretty much use Sipdroid to setup a pbxes.com account. Remove Sipdroid app. Then setup your native ICS internet calling to use pbxes.org account (which in turn use Google Voice to make free phone call with Wifi/4G).
Note: Can remove additional app after finish setup the pbxes.com account.

I know it is relatively easy if I have to port number from other carrier....
Porting to GV is my last option, as when I call others, they see new numbers and not old number....which adds lot of confusion.....unless someone knows "ways to force to show different number while making outgoing calls".

1) Not possible to port prepaid TMo number to newly created $30 account
2) I ported to GV for $20
3) You have to use GV dialer for any non-Android phone to show GV number, but supposedly some Android phones allow you to show GV number without much hassle as a previous poster stated.
So my question is...can I port my GV number to the $30 account that I just made without any hassles?
Thanks.
