Maybe T-Mobile's 3G/4G network requires the 1700 band in many areas, which means only 2G / EDGE speeds will work. But some areas are starting to get 3G on the 1900 band: http://www.phonearena.com/news/T-Mobile-turns-on-3G-coverage-for-unlocked-Apple-iPhone-models-in-some-areas_id24870

Yes Use any handset with 4G in the name if you are unsure. 3G handsets can be purchased on tmobile.com/prepaid like the Optimus T.

YMMV... the T-mobile store will give you a card and activation kit for free. Or just buy online, currently on sale for only $0.99.

Buy any Tmobile prepaid phone at a retailer ~$20 and activate online. Buy a SIM card from Tmobile.com for $8.

However, understand that this is the same balance you tap into if you go over your 100 minutes (charged at $.10/minute after). So if you say use like two minutes over and you go into this balance, then you'll have like $29.80, and it still won't reload until you add like $10 more. (so you'll have $9.80 when your plan renews, for example).
What I do is just load $10 on their site, and then just have it on auto-pay for the $30. If I go over it goes into that $10 buffer zone, so my plan always renews.
Also not a big deal if it doesn't renew...you have 60 days before you're kicked off the plan to add the funds. It will automatically renew when you add the funds.
I was about to buy the Micro Sim Activation Kit to have connectivity in my next trip to the US (~1month) but right after checkout and before payment at the bottom of the page the terms & conditions clearly stated that I would be charged this 'Regulatory Programs Fee' on a monthly basis, and to be honest, even though it's just $1.61 per month I don't want to be paying even when I'm back to Europe.
Is it for real or a mistake from T-Mo? If this fee is really charged, is there an easy way to cancel the account once I'm back home and not using the line?
Thanks in advance!

It sounds like Iphone 4 & 4S are limited to 2G speeds until they roll out HSPA in my area (San Diego)?
Would using the Iphone 5 be any different? Is it still limited to the 1700 band?

They launched it late May early June here in San Diego, so it's brand spanking new.
Speed test.
You'll probably get better speeds than that with an iPhone 5 since I'm using a Nexus 4 that never *officially* supported LTE.
I'd say go iPhone 5 if you can, as you won't experience the true speeds of their DC-HSPA+ network on the iPhone 4/4S, nor will you get their sweet LTE.
Do you know any other promo code for a cheaper SIM?
Try it, let me know how it works...
