9 Disney Blu-ray Titles for $89.70 - Disney Movie Club (with nothing more to buy)

Hi all,

This is only my second post so please be gentle with the comments. I know that the general opinion of Disney Movie Club is negative on this site, but I have tried this deal myself and thought that it is pretty slick.
  1. Go to disneymovieclub.com
  2. Click on link to enter promotion code on upper right. Enter 17674D.
  3. Offer should change to 5 DVDs or Blu-rays for $1.
  4. Check membership details on the left. It should read that you have to buy 3 at regular club prices ($29.95 for Blu-rays).
  5. Choose 5 Blu-ray titles and add to list on right.
  6. Important - Add a sixth bonus Blu-ray at $11.95. This will count toward your membership commitment. Now you only have to buy 2 at $29.95. laugh out loud
  7. Add a second bonus Blu-ray for $8.95. This will make a total of 7 Blu-rays on the initial order. Shipping is free.
  8. Once you receive your initial order, buy two more Blu-rays on separate orders at $29.95 plus $3.95 shipping each.
  9. Cancel your membership to avoid messing with their "featured selections" every 4 weeks.

Here is how the math works out:

Initial order for 7 Blu-rays = $21.90
1st order at regular price for one Blu-ray = $33.90
2nd order at regular price for one Blu-ray = $33.90
Total price $89.70 for 9 Blu-rays.

Here is the list of Blu-rays that I got, but there are a lot more available on the site. Not every movie that is available to DMC members can count toward the 5 for $1 offer though (especially 3D movies). However I believe that you can buy a 3D Blu-ray to meet the two membership commitment Blu-rays.
  1. Toy Story
  2. Toy Story 2
  3. Toy Story 3
  4. Bolt
  5. Wall-E
  6. Tinkerbell
  7. Sorcerer's Apprentice
  8. A Bug's Life
  9. Ratatouille

Let me know what you all think!

Here is what the terms of membership state:

"As a Disney Movie Club member, all you need to do is buy 3 movies at regular Club prices in the next 24 months (starting at $29.95 per DVD and $29.95 per Blu-ray), plus shipping and processing of $3.95 for the first title in each order, and $1.49 for each additional title in that same order. You may cancel your membership at any time after purchasing the 3 movies."

You don't have to buy a certain number each year. Since your initial order already includes the "bonus" Blu-ray, you therefore only have to buy 2 Blu-rays in the next 24 months. I ordered the Blu-rays at the regular price right away so that I could cancel right away. I assume that they would let me re-join sometime in the future, but don't know for sure.

Also the club offers special discounts on other Blu-ray movies when you buy one at regular price to fulfill your commitment . I was able to buy National Treasure 2 on Blu-ray for around $8 because it made the shipping free.

$10 per movie isnt a bad price. Can you rejoin after you fulfill your obligation and cancel?

I assume it's similar to Columbia House and BMG from back in the day.

I'm currently a member only because I've been too lazy to cancel. They send you a "featured title" every month unless you explicitly tell them not to send that month's movie. Once you fulfill your requirements you're free to cancel.

I'm not sure how willing they'd be to take you back into the club after canceling (to answer someone else's question).

There isn't a certain amount that you need to buy yearly. Once you meet the required amount you can cancel or you'll become a VIP member. You then continue get monthly emails and mailings about a featured title that you can buy. Sometimes there are more than one a month if there is a special event or holiday. You can just simply log into your online account and decline the featured title. If you don't decline then they will bill you and ship it. VIP members also get added discounts and Disney pin offers. I've been a VIP for a couple of years and I'm very pleased. I've never had a problem so far.

I'm sure many people have joined and cancelled multiple times without a problem. I think I've done it at least 5 times in 10 years. I don't think I've ever cancelled and rejoined the same calendar year, but I'm fairly certain others have. If you've missed buying a bunch of movies as they were released, it's really a good deal.

With the sometimes great deals with TRU preorder discounts and/or DMR coupons or combination coupons that Target has had in the past it;s became less a major deal than it used to be though, but those type deals are already less common than a couple years ago -- it's hard to beat things like the Bluray deals on Monsters, Princess and the Frog, Toy Stories, Incredibles for $5-6 or less.

Can you use Disney gift cards on this? Still have them from the DMR deal awhile back.

oh not every movie is offered it appears. I was going to get movies like Lion King, Pinocchio, etc. Plus the ones offered don't come with digital copy. Oh well.
