Last time this was posted was about a year ago:

I thought I would re-post this because more people are switching over to TMO. And after reading the last post and talking to TMO tech support they ran out of them last year.

I have the older one that only works on T-Mobile branded phones. The newer model lets you use devices that you may have brought over from other carriers to TMO.

This doesn't boost data speeds, but boost the cell signal 3G/4G (not LTE, since LTE isn't used for voice calls) for voice calls. If you have at least one bar of 3G signal you should be able to qualify for this device. Not sure if it works on prepaid plans. My works and I have full bars in my house.

All the info is on TMO's page here:
https://support.t-mobile.com/comm...al-booster

Basically call in and tell them you want a signal booster because you only have one bar in your house.
They may charge shipping, but I can usually get my waived.

Product Page
http://cel-fi.com/product/cel-fi-...r-t-mobile

"How much does a Signal Booster cost?
T-Mobile makes Signal Boosters available at no extra cost to customers who meet certain qualifications."

"Can I still obtain a Signal Booster if I don't meet the qualifications?
You may also purchase one directly from Cel-Fi."

Cel-Fi list the price to be $575.00

Amazon $575.00 + $7.49 shipping
http://www.amazon.com/New-multi-l...B00DDZZFBI

They may substitute for the older model which I have and works just as good.

I just called. The two eligibility requirements were stated to me as follows:

1) Must get at least 1 or 2 bars of 3G/4G signal in home (by a window at least)*. If there is no signal to begin with, there is nothing to "boost".

2) Phone bill must be at least $50. My plan is above $50 but below $50 below discounts, and apparently I was eligible, so maybe YMMV depending on how closely the rep looks into it.

*The way the booster works is it has two pieces tethered together; one is placed by the window or wherever gets the strongest signal while the other is placed in a more central location of the home.

It was very easy, they didn't ask for anything else but YMMV as others have stated.

so we really only need this if we have poor signal strength? anyone get it to resell it?
You need to send it back if you leave T-Mobile. They might let you off the hook after a couple years, though. It's basically like when your ISP provides you a modem.

If you resell it you'd better die a TMobile customer because they will charge you $500. And what would you do if they say we have an upgraded version yours no longer works and we need you to return it?
I just ordered one and they told me that I need to mail it back once I cancel my t-mobile service or they charge a fee.

Do you think they'll give me one for my free 200mb iPad plan? LMAO

You shouldn't have fee 200mb tablet plan unless you have voice service. It's a requirement.

Great find. Wish I could use this, being that Metro PCS is on and owned by tmobile. Sigh.

I have switched to TMO several months ago.
These were not being issued.

I have Tmo iPhone 5S and would get 3 bars in one room and "No service" in rest of the house.
My wife with former ATT iPhone 4 had similar issues.
I called support and explained that I would like to stay with the service but have poor reception in the house.

They shipped me one of those things at no charge. I have to return it to TMO if I ever cancel their service.
I almost bought one of the previous generation units on eBay for $250

Could that be a policy from the older version of the booster? They told me that the booster they send will only work with the phones on my account and anyone else not on the account won't be able to utilize the signal.

At a first glance it would appear T-Mobile is offering to increase signal reception to areas with poor 3G/4G while increasing speeds. However after looking at various videos it appears the window unit is just repeating the "best" signal in your household and essentially creates a personal area network with the "repeating" unit. If this is setup correctly, then your phone will in fact show 4 or 5 bars however in reality you are still getting that 1 or 2 bar quality/speed. Has anybody tried any speed tests before and after installation?

Very deceptive, although I admit to almost falling for the legerdemain. Maybe T-Mobile is using this to give the appearance of appeasement for its unfortunate customers until they can finish the 2G/3G to 4G roll out?

On the other hand, I am a T-Mobile customer and I receive excellent reception at home and at work (usually LTE, 4 and 5 bars). At this time, I am currently satisfied with my local coverage. The reception drops considerably when I go to buildings with multiple floors (usually the below ground floors) but I experienced similar drops while on AT&T.

The only situation where I can describe the coverage is consistently poor (2G/EDGE coverage, Verizon's "GPRS" service, and other extended service areas like "Movistar") is when I am traveling out of town. Particularly while on the interstate 10 highway (east or west) until I hit a major metro.

Does this work on prepaid plans?

That seems odd, can anyone confirm?

They told me that a few years ago, cause of the metal and stuff in the buildings, they say it wont help.

Could be the old policy... I've had this for a few years now.

I sold my Note II and bought a Sony Z Ultra so this should be a nice upgrade for me since I only get about 2 bars and can't use wifi calling.
