T-Mobile upgrading grandfathered plans to unlimited everything for $1 more/month YMMV

I am currently on a T-Mobile Family Time plan and I just received a postcard stating:

"...we want to upgrade your plan so you'll have all of your current features plus our latest benefits, for an additional $1 or less per month:
  • Unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data on the fastest nationwide 4G LTE network
  • Unlimited international data and text in 120+ countries and destinations
  • Unlimited music streaming on your phone or tablet from the top music services without using your high-speed data
You'll have all this and more-with no action required. You'll know you have these benefits as soon as you see "Your plan has changed" on your bill."

Visit t-mobile.com/newbenefits [t-mobile.com] to learn more.

YMMV as to whether you receive this or how much of a benefit it is based on your current plan.

In my case: I spoke with a rep who confirmed this although she didn't know exactly when it will become effective. In theory I already had unlimited talk, but I had to pay for text and had no data so those two being added seems a good deal. But since I don't have a smartphone I can't use the data. I wish I had taken advantage of their Summer Saving promo. Rep said the promo is definitely over but she could give me one LG90 for $24, but not two.

edit: I am on a voice only plan, Family Time 1000. Although as I stated their change a while ago made all their plans unlimited talk. I currently pay $0.20 per text and have no data plan.

If youre unhappy with the forced migrations voice your opinion and take the poll @ tmonews : http://www.tmonews.com/2014/12/ar...new-plans/

The new plan is called Select Choice Unlimited Talk and Text

Scanned copy of OP postcard. Notice "Unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE Data"

Prior Card Error
I just received a follow up card from T-Mobile stating that the prior card mentioning unlimited data was incorrect. However, it appears that this new card is incorrect as well. It states I will either get 30MB 4G data or what I had before. What I had before was 5GB data. My plan actually changed to 8GB + 1GB for a total of 9GB (T-Mobile explained 1GB was free and then I'm charged $40 for the 8GB). I was also switched to the Simple Plan TT35 which is unlimited talk and text for $35. So my new bill is $75 instead of $74.10.

This new plan adds the no-data music streaming and Mobile Hotspots up to my 9GB data limit.

This. It would be helpful to know as it could point to whether they're doing this for all grandfathered customers or some that meet a certain criteria.

OP, please post as much detail as you can about your current plan: minutes, data, text, other grandfathered add-ons (t-zones, BTV, etc.)

so.... speaking with a rep it looks like all grandfathered plans will go down to 1GB of highspeed data and unlimited slower data (this will keep rate plan flat). To increase high speed data you'd have to pay more. I'm currently on the $5 / month preferred android where I'm pretty sure its 5GB of high speed data.

you do get the benefit of international data and calling... though IMO its not worth losing the extra high speed data. Would love for someone else to verify or deny this as I'm not very happy right now.

Looks like that is correct from the fine print...Although, is the 2.5GB until 2016 promo still available? I have that and I get 2.5GB instead of 1GB per line...

Your data plan is using HSPA+ which mean 4G, not LTE. In fact, T-Mobile will automatically throttle your speed to 4G and you will not benefit from maximum speed they have. However, if your device is not support LTE then don't care my words, you just got rip off. laugh out loud

Old data GF plan: $5 for 2gb LTE - $15 for 5gb LTE.
Preferred Android or Unlimited Android 4G only benefit from HSPA+ speed max

Anyway, let me explain in a simple way: T-Mobile will change whatever plan which is not Simple Choice to Simple Choice. 4+ line will benefit from promotion 2.5 Gb/ each until 2016 then 1gb after. That's all

Attention: the promotion 2.5gb/each for 4 line + is now over. You cannot request to change to this anymore. Which mean if you have 3 line right now, then change to the SC plan, add one more line will not give you 2.5 gb each.
The way they advertise $1 more a month is just some kind of marketing. Your monthly bill will be increasing in extremely YMMV base on your previous gf plan.
