Starting 4/7 AT&T is going to be offering the iPhone SE 32 gb for $199.00 on prepay plan. Also available will be the iPhone 6 at $299.00. I was in the store and they shared the flier. Easier to unlock than the boost mobile phones.
Will add flier photo if I get back to store.

NO EASY WAY TO UNLOCK THESE ANY MORE. YOU CAN USE IT ON AT&T POSTPAID OR MVNO (CRICKET, ETC). DON'T BUY IF YOU'RE ONLY PLANNING TO UNLOCK AND USE ON OTHER CARRIERS.

URLs to check if your phone is unlocked (using the IMEI):
Verizon: https://www.verizonwireless.com/b...heckDevice
Tello: https://tello.com/bring_your_own_phone

The "90 day" Go Phone refill card will expire 90 days after you've loaded the amount into your ATT account. The card itself has a separate expiration date on the back which is ~2 years from purchase. Note: this only applies to those who got a separate refill card.

I will put this in the wiki and hope in answers some questions that are reoccurring.

The iPhone is not like other phones, lock/unlock is done server side through Apple.

This ATT phone comes locked to ATT sim card(s). this phone is reported to not be locked to GoPhone.

Once you put a GoPhone sim in the phone and connect to Apple's server, your phone will be locked to GoPhone.

If you leave the phone unopened and put an unlock request into ATT, your phone will (as reported in this thread) be unlocked by ATT and can be activated with any SIM card.

Steps to unlock phone are:
leave phone sealed.
submit unlock request through att's website https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/ (select "I'm not an AT&T customer")
click on link in e-mail from att
wait 2 days for att to confirm unlock.
try sim card other than att GoPhone/prepaid sim card. Never try sim card you got with the phone.
Recommended sim card to use is Verizon.

If phone does not have ICCID listed on box, phone might work out of box with Verizon SIM card. Verizon SIM card will white-list all other SIM cards so always use a Verizon (can be old or new / inactive or active) SIM card first.

If your phone will not work with Verizon (or other sim card), try a old or new att postpaid card and not the one that came with the phone.

From my experience with ATT phones, unlocking takes a few hours and never use a att sim tied to a prepaid account first.

Any ATT SIM that is tied to a prepaid account should not be used in this phone until the phone is unlocked and works with non-ATT SIMs.

PS - any US version iPhone without ICCID on the box should work right out of the box with the first sim activated being a Verizon sim and that will unlock white-list all SIMs no matter what carrier the phone is for.
This is TOTALLY FALSE!!! Only SIM free models subject to the US reseller flex policy work like that. These are the carrier models!!

<<- was not the case for me with Simple Mobile (no ICCID visible). A Verizon SIM allowed me to go through the initial setup but after that the phone still demanded activation and would not work with an overseas SIM. After removing this Verizon SIM, I could use the iPhone as an iPod.

PPS - it has been reported in this thread that the phones being received are ATT versions and not assigned to the unlock requirements of ATT GoPhone prepaid service. If you request unlock and receive confirmation of unlock before powering on the phone for the first time, you will have a SIM unlocked phone.
<<- Only true, if your AT&T unlock request goes through.

SE is a better phone.
Update:

I bought a boost mobile 16gb Iphone SE yesterday for $179. Planning to buy an ebay unlock service for $30, bringing the total to $179+30+20tax = $230.
I would have bought the 64gb but it was out of stock.

Then ATt&T released this with bigger storage (thanks OP) and I passed on it initially because unlock services were charging $70-99 for unlocking. Turns out, you can do this for free if you use the method above.

To recap, all the Att stores I called, said you must buy the $30 prepaid gophone refill card. That was mandatory. They said return policy is 14 days if it's unopen. if it's open, $45 restocking fee. There is no return on the gophone card at all. Which means, if you want it local and now, you can buy it at $199 and sell the gophone card on ebay which seems to fetch near the same amount as cash value.

If you call 866 662 4548, and speak to an ATT sales rep, they will sell it to you without mentioning the $30 card. I called a different # and she said I had to buy the card. But with this #, she said the total was $217 including tax and that was out the door.

However, my issue was since it's friday, they will ship this monday-wednesday of next week I'll get it earliest next Friday. She did say she would bump up the shipping for free to their highest level which was priority 2-3 day. Either way, if you can wait and don't want to buy a gophone refill card for $30, then you can order direct from ATT.

A brand new 32gb iphone SE for $199 is a really good damn deal considering if I bought this direct from Tmobile it's $399 + tax for the 16gb. I'm waiting to make sure the unlock goes through before opening the box in case I want to return it.

Also, something to note. At the store they will ask things like is this for att, prepaid or a different network. Because depending on your answer, they will either leave the phone as-is or assign you a prepaid phone #. I made sure to say leave it as-is, because I heard prepaid phones are assigned as Unpaid status and I don't want any complicated issues. So currently the phone has no #, the gophone card is not used and the box is not open.
Does your mom tuck you into bed every night and read you a bed time story too?

You may have to buy a $45 top up as well, and I believe it's online or phone orders only.

This is exciting for me as a GoPhone user.

I wanted to update my phone for a while now.
I wouldn't mind either the iPHONE SE or the iPHONE 6...not too sure which one to go for.

Thanks, it indeed is a better phone, however the only thing putting me off is the smaller size...anyways, shall see when this becomes live.

how easy are these to unlock? will att do it if you submit an unlock request online? in the past, they use to approve unlock for non-att mobility go phone devices. Not sure if they do now or not, but does that apply to iPhones too?
