laugh out loud On the hating people.

How was the drive back? Did you take the scenic route and if so, did you notice all the alligators in the water in the ditch alongside the elevated roadway? We must have seen about 20 gators for every mile traveled. But then you were driving so you might not have noticed them, most of the time all you can see are eyes and a snout sticking up above the water surface in the ditches. I had to point them out to my friend the first time we went that way as she was driving and didn't notice at first. Bigeye

If you find yourself headed to Louisiana again but in the spring, swing by Avery Island. They have a beautiful drive through garden with hundreds of Azalea bushes, it's just amazing when they're in bloom but you have to time it right, once things start to warm up the Azaleas stop blooming. They also have a huge Egret colony and you can get some amazing photos of the birds and their young. The factory tour is pretty neat too.

it was a long drive, that's for sure. I went out US 90, definitely the long way around, but a little more out of the way than the same brand names every three miles on the interstate. I didn't see any alligators, I looked occasionally, but it's just too hard when you're driving alone. it wasn't that wet until I was west of Lafayette, and then I was in a Thunderstorm, I didn't see much water in the ditches, just in the bayous and along the elevated sections. If I had had more time I would've gone to one of the parks southwest of town and tried to see some. I thought about it, just didn't want to drive more than I had to laugh out loud

It was raining pretty hard west of Lafayette, was barely doing 40 mph at one point, and probably averaged around 60 between Lafayette and the state line, as the rain came and went.

Yeah, some of the heaviest rain I've ever seen was while driving through a swamp on an elevated roadway. When it pours, it really pours.

They used to have a couple of albino alligators at the zoo in New Orleans. I'm assuming they're still there since alligators live for so long. A hunter brought them in when they were little as they wouldn't have lasted long in the swamp with that coloring.

This might be a good deal for you. The price is a little higher now than it was when it hit the Front Page deals but it's still pretty good. https://slickdeals.net/permadeal/58462

How was the hotel in New Orleans? I'm thinking of going this year or next. It's been far too long since we were last there.

not bad. room was pretty big, two beds and a couch. tiny, tiny bathroom, though laugh out loud the set up is super confusing, they own various buildings (but I'm not sure about all) around the courtyard, some of which seem to be much newer than others. I had to go into the main courtyard (the valet parking), into a building into another courtyard, find a hidden staircase, get up the stairs, then go along a balcony. the doors were just wide enough to fit my suitcase, and it wasn't a huge suitcase, either. the door to my room was one of the double door setups, except you couldn't open one, so that i had to lift my suitcase in sideways through, I couldn't roll it into the room Doh there's another hotel across the street and a bit west, and the ursuline convent just east, and most everything else is residential, so it is pretty slow / quiet. the bed was comfortable enough, and they even had a flat screen TV with a few HD channels. the shower head was just below my chin, which made for a somewhat awkward shower, but that was about my only complaint there. it is really close to Jean Lafitte's, sounds like that's more your end of the quarter than the more college student end of bourbon street, anyway.

That's the drawback of New Orleans. If you want to stay in the French Quarter and can't afford one of the fancy hotels but want some quiet, your choice is a quirky room in an old building, often where several of the old buildings have been cobbled together to make a hotel. But at least it was clean and had a comfortable bed and a nice tv and most importantly it was far enough away from Bourbon that you didn't get a lot of street noise, so you could sleep. Smilie

We ran into the same sort of problem in San Francisco. We sacrificed room size for a great location and an amazing price (IIRC it was $89 per night). We were one short block from the trolly turnaround and two short blocks south of Union Square. The down side was the room was small and the bathroom was miniscule. You couldn't stick out your arms at all in the shower or you'd bang your elbows into the sides of the shower. So you had to keep your arms to your sides to wash and to shampoo your head. You could also open the shower door and reach the sink. laugh out loud

it certainly wasn't bad, and wasn't dirty, just a little tired laugh out loud it amazed how big the room was, really, the one wall had two beds, a desk and a couch with room to spare, it amazed me how small the bathroom was comparatively Dontknow

it's been a pretty easy evening, I did some grocery shopping, one load of a laundry for stuff my friends need when they get here Thursday evening. tomorrow I'll need to do a lot more to get ready for them coming, I have a bunch of cleaning that needs to get done Hide going to be two busy days at work, too, lots to get done this week and next with the end of the fiscal year fast approaching EEK!

Bye Night ML.

I had a crappy day. Was at the dentist for 2 1/2 hours. The dentist managed to scratch my face (just above my lip) with a pick and drew blood. Then she hit almost the same place with a drill bit. Then she dropped a tool while it was inside my mouth and scratched the inside of my cheek. I think they gave me too much numbing agent too as I was a wreck for the rest of the day. So tired I could barely keep my eyes open. Annoyed

Bump tomorrow could be an interesting day. meeting with the state in the morning, those are always more tense than I'd like them to be. but my friends get here late in the evening, taking some time off and touring around Austin with them. Whee looking forward to this weekend.

unfortunately, doesn't look like any of my favorite local bands are actually in town this weekend Doh two of them are over in Houston. Mad
