yeah, I've been watching what I can Whee on the flight here, I was on Jet Blue, and their 36 channels of TV included Bravo, MSNBC, NBC Sports and NBC, which all had live coverage during the day. the seat next to me was empty so I was basically watching two things at once - I watched much of the third set of the Tsonga match that went super long, I watched most of the women's soccer game, and I saw a good chunk of the women's field Hockey US game.

I've been watching the prime time coverage in my hotel the last two nights, too, and some of the late night show.

I'm not sure which i'd call my favorites - I did set my DVR at home to record the time trial this morning so I can watch that later even though I know Wiggins and Armstrong won. Beach Volleyball has been interesting, even the synchronized diving coverage was cool.

I'm not crazy enough to try and follow Judo, or boxing, or equestrian events, or weight lifting. I haven't watched any basketball, not sure that I will. I'm less of a fan of track than most people, but I'm sure I'll watch whatever winds up on the primetime coverage.
We're watching the men's time trials as I type this, so thanks for the spoiler. Annoyed

laugh out loud I knew who won but DH doesn't. I'm a horse nut, used to have my own horse, so we watched all of the equestrian events. Also watching the finals of the swimming, some of the syncro diving as DH likes it, the gymnastics (men and women), the woman's beach volleyball (guess who wants to see that Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) ) and a few bits of other things. DH finally accepted there's no way we can watch everything with the hours he has to work.

I think beach volleyball is fantastic competition -it amazes me that anyone can to any of those balls, and jump like that in the sand. I went to a lot of women's volleyball games in college at Wisconsin (with the band), they were a great time, rally scoring has really helped, too.

I didn't get to watch much tonight - I caught some during lunch, then I was hoping I could catch the moonrise from my hotel balcony (I couldn't, too many clouds on the horizon), then I went to dinner and saw some on the TV there, and only then have I gotten to see pay attention to them, about 10pm eastern time.

I got a great room upgrade. I'm in Islamorada, FL, at a hampton inn (which rated better than the hilton resort in Key Largo), and I got a room on the top floor, a corner suite, with ocean view (facing southeast). it's fantastic, I have to say. This was easily a $100/night upgrade from the rate I actually paid.
Aside from the clouds, I also have my lenses fog up when I take them from the room to the balcony - it is crazy, crazy humid here Ohmy still pretty warm, too, but there's a pretty good breeze.

I'll drive the rest of the way to Key West tomorrow, I figure I'll get there around 12:30 or 1pm, I'm not in a huge hurry. No specific plans yet, although I'm looking at fort zachary taylor state park, the truman little white house, the hemingway house, and a few recommendations for places to eat. I may or may not stick around for sunset from mallory square - it may depend on what parking I've found, how tired I'm feeling, etc - I'm staying in Homestead Friday night - I'm not in a huge hurry to get there, but I do need to get there eventually. Even though I lived in Florida for a few months, I never made it to Miami or Key West. Didn't have a car back then and wasn't much of a beach goer. I kind of regret not seeing Key West now. Oh well. There are lots of other places on my list of things to see and I did make it to Cozumel.

laugh out loud I just assumed you had been there or knew something about it. Not even a british news story for me? laugh out loud

exhausting day, I have to say. Woke up at 6:35, watched the sunrise, got the free breakfast, and went back to bed laugh out loud Faint woke up, got cleaned up, and left my hotel around 11, with about two hours from there to Key West.

I enjoyed myself, but it was quite hot and humid, hit 90 degrees with a 78 dew point, I was pretty well into heat exhaustion in the afternoon Faint I had lunch at a fish taco/burrito trailer, the Cayo style shrimp burrito was excellent yummy I guess there's a reason it's rated so highly on trip advisor. I walked around a bit, went to Mallory Square, and decided then at 2:30pm I wouldn't stay for sunset, even if that is the thing to do. I eventually worked my way to the 'southernmost point in the continental US' monument, had a slice of key lime pie at a beach cafe, and went to the butterfly conservancy, which was pretty cool, and shockingly cooler than it was outside Ohmy I went past the Harry Truman / little white house, but was way past the tour hours, and I took a picture of mile marker zero for US 1 Photo I drove out of town along the Atlantic side, and eventually got back to seven mile bridge about 20 minutes before sunset. I watched the sunset with a number of other people (easily more than 50) from the deck of the old seven mile bridge. There were some low clouds that obscured the sun as it hit the horizon, but it made for some very good colors for photography.

I had dinner just past there, some seafood quesadillas, with shrimps and scallops, which was pretty good (the tortilla needed a bit of work, it was to dry). By then it was completely dark and I was still two hours+ from the hotel. I didn't get into my hotel in homestead until about 11:15. I probably should have just spent two nights in the hotel in Islamorada, but so it goes.

trying to figure out my plan for tomorrow, it's supposed to be pretty hot again, possible rain/thunderstorms (I drove into one on the way to homestead), not sure how much I really want to be outside. I suppose if nothing else my hotel room should be really nice at the Bantley resort, and lounging is the thing to do at resorts, right?

I know one thing - bed soon, then sleeping in nod Yawn

Sounds like you're having fun MrL -- glad you made it to Key West, I love it there.

I'm bored. Anyone up?!

Now you know why I didn't live there very long. A beautiful place but way too hot and humid to be comfortable, that and the flying roaches. :shudder:

Sounds like you've had a good time. Will look forward to seeing the pics when you get home.

A very boring day here, just did some reading then went out for groceries. Not sure what to do tomorrow. Might go watch the Blue Angels perform over Lake Washington but then I've seen them before a few times, back in Texas. With Seafare going on it's going to be too crazy to get into Seattle or to head south or north. Might go to Rainier or just stay local. DH might take some time off around my birthday so we could do Rainier then. I-5 is going to be a mess with all the traffic delays (they close the I-90 bridge for the flyovers) and lots of people will be headed down I-5 to get to the flight museum, which is where the Blue Angels are based while they're here.

Faint that's pushing the amount of stuff and walking out of shape body will survive... Drove up to Miami from homestead, went to Marlins Park for the tour. that was cool, but not one of the better tours I've done shake head they really didn't talk at all about the details of the park, and didn't include either of the locker rooms (I can understand the home locker room in baseball, those guys practically live there, but I've seen the visitor locker room a few times).

After that I decided to go to the Vizcaya museum and gardens - which I thought would be more art museum than it was. it was still interesting though - it was originally a winter home for a chicago business man lots of art on the walls and sculptures, and the gardens were really nice. I was a little too impatient to take in the history and design of each room and such, but I think people into that stuff would really enjoy it.

Then I headed to south beach and my hotel. got stuck in some traffic getting onto Miami Beach, and despite showing up at 4:45pm, my room wasn't ready when I got here. Ermm They did give me a good room, though. it's a one bedroom suite, I'm facing north, just behind the two story penthouse that faces ocean on floors 9 and 10. I've got a balcony that sticks out with a great view looking northeast to the water. The hotel restaraunt had a happy hour with $5 tapas plates and they gave me a free mojito voucher when I checked in, so I had a few plates and a free mojito that was actually quite good yummy

after killing a little more time, i took the local circulator bus up to 12th street, then walked back, taking pictures along the way, I geeked it out and brought my tripod, hopefully I can put together some HDRs with the neon and the art deco architecture. I walked back down to 1st street where my hotel is, then over two blocks to an ice cream / italian ice place. I was back by 11, the party was clearly just getting started. Not noisy at all inside my room, thankfully, although I hear some people and some music out on the balcony.

and with that, it's gotten late already Faint last night in Florida, I'm ready to be home, it's been fun but busy few days.

g'night AMT Bye

It got up into the 90's here today. We hid in the mall until the worst of the heat was over but it was still very uncomfortable after that. When we got home it was 81 degrees in the bedroom. I miss having air conditioning. Tomorrow it's going to be 95. Faint

:jealous:

Did you ever make it to Mi Tierra? If not this would be a good time to try it. Smilie

Right at this moment, I would give a lot of money for one of their Pumpkin Empanadas and a Reposteria de Polvo (Mexican style shortbread cookie sprinkled with powdered sugar) and one of just about any of their entrees. yummy

well, when I say San Antonio, I mean the San Antonio District of TxDOT. their office is northwest of downtown, we're staying near the airport on 410, and very little of our time will actually be in San Antonio proper Doh

tomorrow, they're picking me up at 8:30 so we can go look at things near Kerrville and other places out west. it's mostly going to be long days driving from project to project in a state van Hide

Doesn't sound like a fun trip. Ask the guys in the office if the 410 Diner is still good. It used to have great American diner food. It's on the north side of 410 on Broadway just a block or two south from 410.

Yawn Night ML. Bye

On the menu it states something to the extent of "food like your mother used to cook" which is true if your mother sucked at cooking.
