HTC phones also normally have good resale value. HTC 10 s are still sold above 350$ even after a year.
Your 99% claim is completely bs as well. Almost no one actually wants a midrange phone. The only people with midrange phones are those who settle because they cannot afford the flagship they really want.
Plenty of people out there are happy with a mid-range phone. My grandma doesn't need or want an iPhone or a S8. Believe it or not there are millions of people in the just the US who think the phone prices are absurd and are happy with phones in the mid-range.
Not to mention there are a few billion other people on the planet you are forgetting.. Part of them are fine with phones in this range that are affordable. For them and what they have access to, a mid-range phone may be their S8. Not everyone needs, wants or can afford something fast. You have to look beyond the United States. A phone like this will probably do very well in India or other international markets.
Water resistant and shatter proof in the same phone would be good. Long battery life a must. I think there was a Verizon z force that came out last year that fits this bill. If they release a new version of that, I would definitely jump on that deal.
