This is how I did it.
1. Called the Sprint phone number in the wiki. They originally told me my phone was ineligible.
2.Next they sent me to a tech I was told the phone was ineligible because the phone was PLBL (third part MVNO) Sprint said they had no way to change the phone to SPSC to work on the Sprint network. They said it would require flashing the phone.
3. I called Ting the last carrier the phone was registered to and asked them to switch the designation from PLBL to SPSC. This was completed in 30 seconds. No flashing required.
4. I called back Sprint and again asked them to activate the phone. Again they first told me the phone was ineligible. I told the rep to ask a supervisor too override it. This time when they checked they said my phone was eligible.
5. They asked if I had a SIM Card. I gave them the ICCID number of the orignal ( 4 year old ) Sprint Sim the phone came with. This Worked! I did not have to buy a new sim.
6. Next i was registering my phone for the BYOD free 1 year account. I ported out my google voice number. Be certain to unlock it first. The account number is your phone number.
7. After getting off the phone I called the porting phone number in the wiki to complete the port. Bingo it was working, free service for 1 year.
8. This entire process was complete in about 2 hours and 30 minutes from initial call to having free service. Good Luck!

What is the best way to cancel this when the year is up?
1) Had used my nexus 6 previously on ringplus, so it did not pass the eligibility test. The MVNO flag had to be reset.
2) 06/23 Went to sprint community and sent PM to Sprint representative who had helped someone with similar kind of problem. I shared my IMEI and he created a 'click it ticket'
3) In the meanwhile called freedompop support and got the account and PIN number to be used during port
4) 06/26 afternoon checked the eligibility of the phone and it passed. Ordered the SIM, didnt face any issue with credit check.
5) 06/27 afternoon got the SIM and activated it. The activation went smooth, got the confirmation email which says the phone should be active in the next 10 mins.
6) Waited till 6 pm and saw that the port was not complete. As suggested by SDers here contacted the number in the wiki for porting.
7) The sprint rep was friendly, he asked whether the number was a GV or FreedomPop one, i promptly said it was FP. He said the port is in progress and will take 2 more days and he can push it right away if i want. I said yes, and the port was done within a minute and he said to check after 10 mins
8) Phone activated, get around 10 Mbps down
Thanks for your help SDers
