Well, that's more than the Sprint rep could (would?) tell me anyway.
I think of it as I am paying 8~9$/month for Moto E (full in advance) + 3~4$/Month for service.

Thank you but if I can't find better brand, I might stick to Moto G4, I don't think Moto E4 is better than G4
You have to have the proper SIM card for whatever new phone you are getting. Your current SIM may work, it may not work depends on the new phone. And you have to get the SIM associated with the new phone even if it is the right type.

No matter what, you can't do a simple SIM swap, you have to log on or have a rep associate the SIM with the phone's IMEI.

my nexus 6 was showing as ineligible. the phone rep recommended creating the line on another phone (iphone6) and then transferring my number to the nexus6 then. the account was created, the line ported, and now my nexus6 is still saying ineligible and i can't get my new account(old phone #) back onto my nexus6 that it was previously connected to (ting).
i know i've read in this thread that i should be able to switch phones that i already own (thus not violating the "change phone" clause" since i already own the phone). i think i've also read that i should be able to do it via chat or in store.
i went to a sprint store this weekend and they couldn't get it connected/cleared either. i mentioned the "flipping the flag" and they spent a good amount of time trying different things to get it active but also mentioned that they might not be able to do it in store since my account is under the promo and they don't have user privileges to do so. they also said something about dna and dna2 so it led me to believe that they were competent in their attempts.
i'm also suffering from info. overload due to the size of this thread and since i've been stalking it for close to a month. i know i've read many different bits and pieces but haven't been able to figure out how to get this accomplished. since the line is already created, i don't think sales will be as motivated to help me in a clickit ticket since it's not a new line. i read in the wiki about asking for "mark" to fix it but haven't been successful in tracking him down.
i just tried running the imei in the ting byod checker to see if that helps, but i'm not very optimistic.
the store speculated that the phone might not be usable if it was flashed to a prepaid provider, but i'm skeptical of their opinion since it seems that other's have been able to get their nexus6 activated.
any suggestions are appreciated. hopefully i can get this resolved so i can secure another line or two before the end of the month. tia.
update 10:45pm EST: i just checked the imei on sprint again after checking it on ting and it's showing as eligible. i will update the post once to let other's know if i was able to successfully get it connected now.
10:50pm - best way to swap phones immediately to check anyone? tia
10:58 - i thought i figured out how to do it online but reached on error message on last page of checkout. trying to talk with sprint via chat now.
12:05am EST - chat wasn't able to get it set up either. seemed like progress was being made but wasn't able to completely activate the phone. they're referring me to technical support for advanced trouble shooting. ty LieterallyUnlimited for your tip about using the Ting byod checker and all the other help and info. you've offered throughout this thread. hopefully this'll be resolved first thing in the morning with support.
In Sprint world, you always just swap phones (including their existing in place sims at the same time). You never have to remove to remove or insert a sim (other than the first time you insert one if you bought a non-branded phone). A sim stays with the phone permanently as you move the phone from Sprint to Sprint MVNO to Sprint to Boost etc.. You do not have to get a new sim ever once you have the right Sprint sim in the phone. In GSM world, you have to constantly be purchasing new SIM's every time you move the phone.
So do not think about swapping sims as it is never needed once you have a working sim into each phone.
In lieu of DNA2, if you have an unlocked iPhone 6/6+/6S/6S+ or a Qualcomm 7/7+ with Find My iPhone disabled, you can plug the IMEI into Ting's BYOD checker (ting.com/byod), and it will attempt to push the serial number to the Sprint database for you.
If the push is successful, you'll see that your unlocked iPhone will now be eligible for CDMA service, as well as Ting GSM. You will still need the ownership flag flipped (and I can still do that for you via Reddit). Once the flag is flipped, you should be good to activate on Sprint.
This isn't an exact science, and it won't always work. If it fails, you'll see that your phone can only get GSM service. To troubleshoot the issue further, you'll need to contact Sprint or your original carrier to get the phone unlocked.
Should out to this thread [reddit.com] to get me thinking about it and investigating further.
I have a VZ prepaid SE (1662) and a VZ 6S (1688) that I was trying to swap service to through the web portal. However, entering in the IMEIs kept saying "hmmm ... this number doesn't match our records, please try again".
Today, I tried to click through this deal and tried to "sign-up" for this deal using these sames phone's IMEIs and it said eligible.
Going back to my account and trying to swap phones again and voila ... the IMEIs are now in the system and I was able to click through till the last step to activate. It even let me select options to change or keep the same SIM.
I did not yet complete the activation as I don't have the phones in hand, but hopefully someone else that is trying to do this is able to replicate successfully and report back? You need to have both phones turned off when you are doing the swap.
I got my SIM from Twigby.com .... $2.99.
