I am using an unlocked Galaxy S8 and have done all the steps.
The number porting from TextNow is successful as said on the port status page.
It says if it doesn't work just restart the phone.
I have tried to restart a dozen times and it still does not work. It's showing connected to the Verizon APN, which is super weird.
If it still doesn't work tomorrow morning, I will hit Sprint Store.
Did you try reset carrier settings dial ##72786# then profile and prl update

I did. It still doesn't work. I guess maybe the number porting process is not completely done? My TextNow app can still call out, but doesn't receive calls. Texting doesn't work either.

I'm not sure I've done this right. I bought a Sprint 5s of Craigslist. After buying it, I didn't think it is unlocked. I put in the imei number and the phone number of my daughter's freedompop account that uses Sprint towers. It said congrats and I ordered the sim. Am I going to have problems when it gets here? Does the phone and number have to be tied together? I'm also not understanding about how to swap in a phone not on the list. Is it possible to reuse the 5s to set up 5 lines and use other phones for those lines?

Holy crap this is the slowest service ive ever had. On Sprint im getting 2MPs download, whereas on T-Mobile I was getting 20-25 MPs download. Also, having trouble sending and receiving texts, and no internet surfing while on calls. I shouldnt be complaining though its free, just not sure how anyone is/was paying for their service.

Sprint will implode if the Japanese parent company does not infuse/borrow billions of $$$$ to pay for its loses.

Sprint is losing money, it is HEAVILY indebted, and it seems that it's not making the necessary infrastructure investments to maintain its cell network in a competitive state of the art condition.

In addition, its network system is overloaded with subscribers who in turn compete for the limited bandwidth speeds, and that's slowing down the cell network even more.
That's why we have these horribly slow service speeds.

And now with all these free Sprint subscribers and the large number of Sprint MVNOs and their users things are going to get even slower. All these subscribers are NOT generating enough revenue for the necessary Sprint revenue streams and infrastructure investments.

Even with band 41 speeds are very slow, and that's supposed to be a faster service than the bands 25 or 26.
Use the LTE Discover app to see the bands in your area and their relative strength.
Speeds of less than 1Mb Down and/or Up in some areas are not unusual on any of these bands, especially in the daytime and workdays.

FreedomPop seems to have figured that out and decided to hedge its system by moving/transitioning from the Sprint CDMA system to the AT&T LTE system.

That'll protect FreedomPop if and when Sprint goes under or restructures and drops all these MVNOs that are draining the speeds and revenue out of its system.

AND, from the look of things this day may be sooner rather than later.

We are trying to switch from Verizon and bring a Galaxy S7 Edge and S8 device. Do these devices if bought at Verizon work with promotion? Promotion mentioned "special edition" Galaxy devices and not sure what that means. Reason I ask is that we are determining if we should pay off devices at Verizon, but don't want to pay off devices until we are sure we can bring phones. IMEI checker doesn't work as we still owe money on the devices. Can anyone let me know if standard Verizon s7 edges and s8s work on this promotion or if special edition means it's only one of the unlocked phones you might buy from Best buy? Sprint telesales, chat and store of course are no help.

Verizon S7 edge or s8 won't work. Only the one from BestBuy or Samsung, the model name ends with U, works.

I went from "who cares its free" to "free isn't even worth it". I too wonder how people pay for this service.

Hey again! ... I've got one more (important) question about your unlocked S8+ usability on Sprint:

Are you able to use wifi calling?

I ported in two Galaxy S8+ Unlocked (SM-G955U1) phones into the Sprint BYOD plans from Cricket. For the first phone, I ordered the SIM from Sprint, and it arrived the next day. I was unable to process it online and had to all the toll-free number. The port-in was so quick that I received a "SIM is not Registered" message from Cricket just seconds after hanging up.

The next day I picked up a SIM card from Best Buy. Be sure that you know the model of the card you want! The model of the SIM card that I received from Sprint and the one that I received from Best Buy differed by one letter. It turns out that Sprint dual-sources manufacturers, and the letter difference was just Manufacturer A vs. B. What is important are the numbers & letter at the end of the SIM card model.

The porting of the second phone took a little longer, maybe 10 minutes. For both phones, after porting, the phones would reboot and self-configure themselves. The phones would reboot around five times. All I did was just watch and click an odd OK button.

Both phones do have WIFI Calling, and both are still running the default firmware. The phones do not have the new Calling Plus feature; however, that supposedly could be added if I flashed the firmware and modem code on the phones. But that isn't really worth it for me to risk it.

I'm thrilled that I have WIFI Calling. It works very well. Reception at home with Cricket was spotty. Sometimes the phone would simply never ring for incoming calls. Not only do I now have WIFI Calling, the actual signal strength of Sprint is far stronger at my house than Cricket was.

So this has so far been the type of win-win that Sprint is hoping for.

Thank you so much for your help! ... Guess I'll pre-order the Note 8 unlocked version and keep my fingers crossed for swapping it into my free Sprint account when it arrives next month!
