Interesting. Is this still working for you? I might try this. If it doesn't work, I can just try porting the number in afterwards. I'd be out $23, but it would be worth it if it worked.
I haven't tried recently, as I had to free up my spare Iphone (sold it!). You take a look below.

Update: I just tried the proof of concept by using 2 Iphones and IT WORKS. The key is to use same Icloud ID for both phones and make sure enable your Icloud email.

Awesome. I do have an extra line right now (and extra iPhone), so I think I'm going to try to register that number on the same Apple ID and iMessage and then port out/cancel that line and see if the 2 numbers stay associated with the same iMessage account. I can even wait a month to see if both numbers start associated the whole time. If it works, that would be the best solution. Thanks for the suggestion and trying it out, too.

Anyone have any luck switching to a "non-eligible" phone? I have an iPhone 6 as well as other family members. One of the phones is completely shot and is desperately ready for an upgrade to the new iphone (to be announced this week?). I'm planning to buy them from Apple so will this be a problem to activate before the 1st (My lines were activated back in June). Worst case scenario, we need to wait until Oct 1, but just wondering if anyone has had experience/theories.

Thanks!

My device/carrier showed eligible at their website. I went ahead for the credit check online. But it showed "We're sorry, we're unable to confirm your credit online. Please call the number above for assistance." When I called I wasted 20min talking to them and they said I need to go to their Sprint corporate store with 2 IDs for verification. Did it happen to any of you? Will it mess up with the 1 year free plan?
No, it will not mess up your free BYOD plan. Just go to a Sprint corporate store and have your identity verified.

Check posts # 9596 and 9725.

Good luck.

If you know you have good credit, call them again and try again. I got that same ' you have to go to the store with credit'. I went there and they said there was nothing I could do since I did not yet have an account with Sprint. So waste of time on the phone, waste of time at the store.

My waste of time:
2 calls - one saying I wasn't in the system, 1 saying I need to go to store with ID
1st store visit - need to go to corporate store
2nd store visit - have to do it online

3rd phone call - everything setup over the phone. So lesson is... keep calling. It has to be done over the phone. Only go to the store AFTER you get an account number with Sprint.

Easiest/cheapest/quickest carrier to port to then back to sprint if you are already a sprint customer? I already have a line set up with free service for family and wanted to add myself onto the account but I'm already a postpaid sprint customer. Don't want to lose my number. Thanks!

Has anyone tried to add a new line from best buy to their free plan? I was trying to buy a cheap iphone se, deactivate, and move to my primary line, but the website showed plan illegible for me and didn't allow me to go further.

I remember reading conflicting results in this thread. Anyone know how to go about getting a best buy deal on sprint, pay it off, and then cancel that line? Hoping a S8 or note 8 deal comes along and I'd like to be ready.

Iphone 8 (or 7s whatever it is called) is coming.I am wondering whether anyone was able to add a new line by purchasing the full price phone? When I tried, only plan was available is full-price Unlimited Freedom Line. Even worse, it would convert my all lines from Free BYOD to $160 a month paid plan.

Nobody knows, as Sprint Telesale does not tell the straight answer. The best educated guess is end of September.

Another quick question - If I go ahead and order the SIM cards - does my phone number immediately port to the new sim card? Basically would I be without a phone from submitting until I install in the new phones? Or does it wait until I physically install the SIM cards in the phone?
