If it is Iphone, try Apple store. They routinely give out Sprint SIM for free.
What do I tell at the Apple store why I want a Sprint SIM?

Well, here's my experience so far:

I went to the link and filled out the information, but the website was unable to verify my identity or credit and told me to call Sprint. I called them and told them about the free service and they tried and could not verify my account, but told me to go to the store to present two forms of ID. This went against the rules of the promo, but they told me it was the only way and the store should be able to help. I then went to the store and told them the story and they said they can't help me unless I want to activate a new line with them for a price.

I think we're still overpaying for Sprint service.
HAHAHAH that is classic farking sprint. They don't get commission of free lines in store so they pretend like the promo does not exist.. Sprint stores are the farking worst.

Yep good luck with that. One of the reasons I left sprint in the first place was because of the run around it came with sim cards. For one thing there are like 8 different sim cards. So the store is stingy with them or they really don't have them. They pretty much wont give them to you. If they do they will charge you 25 dollars for BYOD kit.. Like I said they get ZERO commission and they want nothing to do with you.

I remember when I bought an unlocked 5x I called or went to 6 different stores. All of them refused to give me or sell me one or they didn't have a sim card. The most bullshit thing I have ever had to deal with.

Look at the cluster farks its not just me..

Thanks for sharing your experience in details. It does seem lots of ifs and buts for something as simple as a SIM. The reddit thread talks about using the chat for requesting one. But it doesn't elaborate what to say why am I asking for one?

As a non customer at this stage there are only 2 ways to get a sim. Order one online for 13 dollars or buy one from bestbuy for 9.99.

Strange how my posted speeds hit 81 Mbps, sprint coverage map doesn't show LTE Plus in my area. Maybe it hasn't updated?

By the way, if I wanted to do this again for wife's number is there any difference in the short term or long term [after the free year of service] if I add a line on the same plan by calling [as outlined in the beginning of this thread] or do it separately for her

Adding a line reference - "To get the free service and activate online you need to click the free year promotion link, check your eligibility and order a SIM card there. Once you receive the SIM you can activate it online - quick and painless and guaranteed to be put on the free BYOD plan. After initial activation, more free lines can easily be added but only by calling the promo number @ 866-782-8777

I am a customer actually trying to get another SIM. As a customer if I can request one from chat service what is it that I have to tell them?

You can and should use the one you have.
You will have to call in to use your own sim.
Also you have to port in a number from other than a Sprint mvno. Just port it to somewhere else as first step
Also if the phone is on an mvno it will have to have the ownership flag reset and cannot be a subsidized prepaid phone for this offer.

I would add a line to your account for your wife. Short term benefits are no hard pull on her credit. Long term benefit, she will not be a Sprint customer so could take advantage of new customer deals in the future.
