So, a Sprint iPhone 8 Plus is as good as a Apple Unlocked iPhone 8 Plus? or am I misunderstanding......
https://www.techwalls.com/iphone-...fferences/

Apple devices are well documented and have all the capabilities as per the device model #.
Only difference when bought from carries like Sprint they might be locked. But once unlocked they should be like the phone you have bought unlocked from apple store.
Unlock confirmation - Like for instance you get the message your iphone is unlocked after iphone restore is the best way to confirm your iphone is unlocked .

Now that I see the option to upgrade, I want to , but there are no good offers like we saw past few months for sprint.
Can you try Apple Iphone order "upgrade" option, to see it works or not?

i now also see the option to upgrade on the sprint app and website, it changed as of a few hrs ago when it said 2019... i tried to upgrade online but got an error, then i called and they said if i upgrade i will lose the free plan and have to wait 120 days

sprint never gets their story straight... tired if dealing with them today, will try again in the morning but if anyone has any success please share your experience

I tried 6s - it gave 2 options 1) flex lease - 18 months $25 per month 2) buy now - $ 449.

I am looking for Bestbuy deals where iphone se for $70 and 6s was for around $ 300 I think.

They say it is automatic for more recent phones : "For SIM unlock-capable devices launched after February 2015, Sprint will automatically unlock the device when it becomes eligible."

I believe it unlocked my S8+ automatically without request.

But as you say YMMV.
I originally opened my 5 sprint lines to unlock phones last year. They used to unlock fully paid off phones without the 50-day requirement, but now it's hit or miss. You actually can unlock phones that were purchased on another customer's account and not paid off, as long as you have them on your account for 50 days. or maybe that customer paid off the phone in that time. Usually, the customers just don't pay off the phones when you buy them used online if they aren't paid off when you get them.

aside: They don't unlock phones automatically after 50 days anymore, and I'm not sure they ever did. Out of all the phones I've purchased that were paid off, maybe 5 out of 100 were unlocked when I got them or unlocked after a few weeks. Maybe the account has to be closed and then the phone fully paid off. I've had one phone for 120 days and had the customer call in 4 times to unlock it, but it just won't unlock as its status won't change to paid off. The other three phones unlocked after just two calls.

edit: I only have knowledge about iPhone unlocking, which seems to be a separate protocol for unlocking than with Android phones.

Found this on FreedomPop forum;
"You are able to port out your number to Sprint, you just need to get the pin information."
