I have an unlocked Galaxy S8 I'm currently using with this promo. If I want to swap to an unlocked Galaxy Note 8 instead, can I just put the sim card in the Note 8, or do I have to do anything with Sprint to get it working? And I assume it won't effect this promo any?

Hi:

One other person in my family wants to add a line (I already am approved for 5), and wants to get this Iphone 8 from the Iphone upgrade program: https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-ip...1,31,40,60 . I'm confused on two points:

1) The Wiki says "Verizon ONLY for Iphone 8". This is the unlocked Iphone 8 for any provider that can accept a Sprint SIM. Will it work?

2) I assume that this is being financed by Apple (and not tied to a Phone Company Contract) that it will qualify as an "owned device" under the Sprint Free Year terms?

TIA :-)

I have a Nexus 6P on this promo and its dying (won't hold a charge) and I'm trying to change to an unlocked Galaxy S8. I talked to multiple people yesterday on the phone and even went to the store. Was told they could not activate another device. It would kill the free service plan. Guess I'll just have to switch back to my old carrier.

YMMV.

I have 3 lines on this plan already with supposedly my first line is eligible for upgrade already through sprint portal, what the best way to upgrade to Iphone x when it comes out as I think I may lose the plan if I upgrade?

Just swap it on chat with technical support and there is no problem.

You are going to the wrong sources. Stores are not part of this program. What they mean is if *they* touch it it will go to paid status, which is true. Same for internal sales staff.

It says right in the FAQ section of the Sprint page that you can do what you want:
-----------------------------------------
What happens if I lose or break my own phone and don't have replacement insurance?
If the phone you bring to Sprint through the Unlimited - Bring Your Phone promotion is lost or breaks, you have options that allow you to keep your first year of free service:
You can purchase a Sprint phone at full manufacturer's retail price, or
Swap out a different eligible phone although a new Sprint SIM may be required
------------------------------------------

Just do it with tech. support! They will confirm that no plan change is involved. Not that there is any dount. Numerous people here have done it.

Yep. Did online chat, as well as called customer support. None could help. Maybe I didn't say the magic words.

You need to do an ESN/IMEI swap, don't ever say the word "upgrade" while talking to them or they will just get confused. Don't even say "not an upgrade" unless they use the word "upgrade".

Yes you need to word it as "activate a byod phone to replace the old one which broke".
Best NOT to ask any questions except you need help doing that.
Avoid the word "upgrade". Say no if they ask if that is what you want to do.
You need to have the new sim already which ends in 416Q for an S8.
Postedit: I like the wording suggested by DeltaMajor156 just above.

activating an unlocked Note 8 from Samsung.com is a PIA. Sprint rep can't figure it out. It's been 3 days already!!!

Btw. since you can only upgrade on Sprint.com (no BestBuy), S8/+ seems like best deal at 50/40% off retail for 18month lease. What happens when you upgrade and cancel out before lease ends?

Hey guys, I'm all switched over. If my phone breaks down, can I bring another device from the approved list, activate it, and continue my free one year period?
