#1 is fine. You can even port out/into T-Mobile without funding (as long as you don't wait too long before in again). To be very sure, just fund it with $3 prepaid plan. Keep in mind that you will need to have no financial obligation to Sprint on the device that you are porting out, and that you will need a relative/friend to use their SS#, as this is for new customers.
Would a h2o sim work instead of tmobile prepaid? It costs only 1 cent

The credit report is not accessed when failing the credit check identity verification. A person has to pass identity verification and 3 questions first, and then Sprint pulls the credit report.

If the Sprint system can't generate identity verification questions or says you answered the questions incorrectly, that is a fail of the credit check even though Sprint did not pull the credit report.

The Sprint identity verification system is not working correctly and keeping people like me from becoming customers.

I emailed Marci and didn't get help with this issue. I'll email Elise to see if her office can help.

I second this question. Also you ported a number from your Sprint sim that you canceled to the free plan or was there an intermediary place you ported ?
I port the $45 plan assigned number to H2O which I don't need. So my account used to buy essential phone was cancelled automatically yesterday. This account was set up on Nov 11 to get the essential phone.
I keep the sim card from the essential phone and ask them to create a new account today for the byod promotion. I ported in my att number to this sim card.
Only one social number, only one essential phone, only one sim card.
I also ported my wife's number as the second free line with her own iPhone.
That's the whole story. Hope it clarifies.

No one has been able to help me get past the credit check identity verification problem. I emailed Marci Carris but no helpful response. Someone from billing called me but was not able to help.

I want to become a Sprint customer and no one from Sprint is helping.

I just tried today and it worked. Cancelled the new paid account under my name used to get essential phone yesterday. Call in today to setup a new account with my SSN, make sure the account number is different, then port in two numbers from AT&T for the BYOD one year free promotion. It works.

Telesales is trying to give me one free LG tablet with only $10 for shipping and he confirms there is no monthly payment in the future. He said it's a promotion for new customer. I'm just afraid it's a trap so I did not accept. Anyone else get the tablet and what's the experience? Thanks.
Any reason why you called in instead of doing it online?

The identification verification questions and answers are a service provided to companies like Sprint and many others such as banks etc. by the credit bureaus. If the wrong information is on file in your credit bureau records, which is very common, and you answer one of the questions "wrong", then the credit bureau will tell Sprint that you are not the person you are claiming to be. Since they have paid for and got that formal opinion from the credit bureau, it is very hard for them to override the decision (because everybody would claim they are who they are claiming to be). I myself have had this problem. In some cases they ask you a make-up question and if you get that one "wrong" too, your odds of getting approved are not very good. Presumably you can go the credit bureau and report the innacuracies in your credit history.

The questions are like, "which of these 3 addresses have you ever lived at" or "which of these 3 car models have you owned" etc. This issue is not related to credit-worthiness (which they look into separately). It is just, are you who you claim you are?

Essential phone I got is a nice phone and works smoothly without any lag. It charges very quickly. Android auto also works great with my car. It works with a lot of LTE bands which I like most. Now it's unlocked. Will compare with LG G6 next week.

What I did online is to check if the paid off essential phone and my own Att number could pass the free year plan check. It could not pass it before I port out to H2O but it passed it after porting out. I call telesales because I want to confirm if there will be another hard pull again and they said no. They are willing to help setup the new account so I just let them finish the work.

Thanks. Did you tell them that you had an account open recently and you are looking to open again? I'm in a similar situation where I opened a line with them recently but closed within 2 weeks so I'm thinking I could do what you did. Which number did you call specifically if you don't mind me asking?

Yes. I told them my old account is cancelled yesterday and ask them if I open a new account will trigger another hard pull. I call the number in the wiki as you can see above

I finally figured out how to quote a previous post.

In my situation, the system did not even generate any identity verification questions for me. Since it could not generate questions, the system automatically failed me from the credit check. I've been trying to get help from Sprint about the system not generating questions for me, and no one has helped. They just say try again in 60 days, which obviously will not fix the system not generating questions.

In my parents' situations, the system generated some questions with wrong answers so that the only correct answer was none of the above. But the system said none of the above was not correct, and that one of the wrong answers was the correct one.

I was thinking, even if went to a Sprint store and got a store manager to agree to create an account and PIN for me, would the store manager still need to put me through identity verification over the phone?
