Free deals do need some background work and patience. Do not expect it to be a 5 min job.
Confirmed the free Sprint/Boost/Virgin Mobile SIM SIMGLW416Q provided by my Apple Store worked in my iPhone 8 A1863.

I'm over on Sprint now. The whole process took several hours, no thanks to the Sprint store I visited and mostly no thanks to the 3 I called due to their hold times and none having the proper SIMs in stock.

Another complication was the Sprint folks were asking for my 4 digit AT&T PIN. I have no idea what it was. I had a 7 digit account change passcode but Sprint wanted a 4 digit AT&T PIN. I even found https://forums.att.com/t5/AT-T-PR...-p/4041278. I ended having to call AT&T Wireless while on the phone with Sprint as they directed in order to get my PIN changed to something Sprint could use.

In the end, the person put me thru the porting dept and my call dropped (call failure message, IIRC) in the midst of the talking. At that point, outgoing calls would fail. Looked like the port happened in the midst of the phone call and my AT&T service was killed.

I can also confirm that Sprint still has no SVDO (simultaneous voice and data) while in a call on iPhone 8. I knew that could be a possibility going on and it's ok, given the savings in a year over AT&T, where it does work.

I just tired to port in 2 phones and the indian lady gave me new numbers with a temporary line.

What's my best course of action here? Cancel the lines and retry? Or try to merge?

I never heard of that except on a paid plan. Be careful those are not on a paid plan. Call and find out. ONLY call 866-782-8777 not any other number and always mention the FREE plan.

They read you the terms at the end. Did they say $5 a month with $5 credit for autopay? If not, yes you need to cancel them.

somewhere in this mega thread you will find an email id / twitter handle of a sprint employee who can help. Else you would need to cancel within 14 days and open an new account using SSN from your spouse or relative

The Sprint SIM the Apple Store gave me for free on the back has a part # of SIMGLW416Q. Let's hope it works.

The $5 Apple SIM which I can probably return has an Apple model # of MJVV2LL/A. Funny enough, I noticed it says it's an Apple Nano-SIM card for iPad...
Not sure why you asked for an Apple SIM. Those are only for iPads, as you mentioned. The Sprint SIM should work.

You can port second line. Once its setup, you can port out the 1st line. Sprint does not stop you from porting out the 1st line.

Yes, you can port in 2nd line. You will need sim, phone etc in hand and then call the promo number to port. Use GV number if you do not have one on ATT/Verizon/TMO etc..
You can port a total 5 lines depending on your credit.

Ok thanks. My goal is to sell the phone on that first line and port in a new line with a new phone. So I can just port out that first line to some prepaid cheap service? I don't care about the number on the first line.

You can chat with a rep and ask them to swap phones on your account. Change the current phone on the account to a new phone.
