My recent experience with Sprint:
Got new G5 plus ( unlocked ~$220 )from Bestbuy to replace an iPhone 5s ( which did not have Band 41). Since it required a particular SIM, went to few stores but none of them had this model. Was directed to SPRINT service store. The rep there took my details and came back it's fixed. And at the end he said he changed the plan to help with my issue and asked me to call cust care to bring it back to BYOD plan. He did not tell anything earlier about the chnaging plan. I guess they do that to get a commission. From then I have been calling them to get it back but still, it's not done. Recently got credit for the amount they charged but still, the line shows paid plan. Need to call them again.
Sprint service ( coverage ) is good but when we need help it may take lot of phone calls to customer support to resolve the issue. And Stores - looks like they don't want to help BYOD users, and may convert your plan to paid without telling you!!
for you (and anyone else on this plan) ever conversation with sprint should start with:

whatever u do, do not change my plan.

some precaution, some common sense, some effort (read wiki) is all u need.

best of luck

Question:

Even though the plan is advertised as a "one year free" type deal, the actual savings will expire on 10/31/18, correct?

In other words, if someone signed up today, they would only receive about 10 months of service?

So it would go on through until at least 1 year of service is received, even though there's a cut off date of 10/31/18?

I received notification of my 1st bill on 12/2.

Like some the others I've seen posts about, the first bill was weird.

Mine says it's for 11/25 to 11/25 (even though I began on 11/26).

Under Plans & Equipment I have Unlimited-Bring Your Phone Unlimited Talk, Text & Data $0.00 after it being $5 then having a $5 autopay discount applied.

Sprint Surcharges totaled $2.39
Govt taxes and fees totaled $1.68

My total was $4.07 and it will be charged to my credit card on 12/19. I'm in the 95120 zip code.

Not sure what's up with the single day of service a day before I actually started. Wonder if it really covers a longer period of time. Hope things go ok from this point forward. I'm not going to cry being overcharged $4.07 for my 1st day/month.

Will be interesting to know how much I'm charged in future months.

Sprint charges in advance. Bill you receive is for December month. Same happened to me also.

Charging in advance is fine with me. It's strange that the bill says it covers service from Nov 25 to Nov 25 rather than from say 11/26 (the day I started) to around 12/25 or 12/26.

It should be the same $4.07. Even though it is called Sprint post paid they bill in advance. The $4.07 will be for service from 11/26- 12/25. Since your payment isn't due until 12/19 you are actually getting service before having to pay for it. Confusing I know.

OK, someone please tell me if the below plan will work (admittedly, after following the entirety of the Essential thread, this one is just too much to go back and read through).

I am a current Sprint customer on a post-paid line (SERO).

1. Purchase Essential Phone
2. Activate Essential Phone on my personal line
3. Pay off EP and satisfy the lease
4. Port my family's MintSIM line to Sprint BYOD and open new Sprint account for family member
5. Register for $200 gift card promo [sprint.com]
6. After 60 days, get $200 card, thereby essentially offsetting the cost of the EP and the the loss of the remaining 3 months we have on MintSIM.

Anyone see any issues with my plan above?

OR am I just being a dummy and the $200 promo does not stack with the 1 year free deal?

I see that we need to go in-store for the signup or port process (it says "limited time in-store only")?

$200 promo won't stack with free plan and don't go to store to sign up for free plan, won't happen there.

Also you only pay about $3-$5(avg tax) per month for sprint unlimited which is worthy upgrade over mintsim.
So you would only save $9-$15 total by waiting to use up your 3 months of mintsim and then signing up for Sprint(which may not be available in 3 months).

Definitely--the only thing is having to buy a new phone (Essential) after just spending money (about 9 months ago, for Amazon's Blu R1 Plus) on a phone. I might be able to offload the R1 on Swappa or something for a quick sale and help offset the Essential Phone costs.

I'm seeing people are having issues with EP order in both black and white, so hopefully they send it to me soon. I don't want to sign up for the one year plan until I have the EP in hand and paid off.
