Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Allan Samson, senior vice president of acquisition marketing for Sprint, said that by using an online-only process and skipping things like commercials, sales staff and tech support, it can afford to offer the service for free. He said the usual costs of adding a customer means Sprint doesn't make money until after the first year anyway.
...
Can I just leave Sprint after the free offer is expired?
Yes. And surprisingly, there are no catches here. You're not stuck on a contract, and are free to leave.

But Samson notes that Sprint offers the lowest rates for unlimited data, so a customer would have to make a choice to pay more if they switched after the first year.

"I really like my chances to keep a large majority of these customers with the Sprint family," he said.
Thought this was interesting read....

Something just occurred to me while reading the boost promo thread. Somehow they were talking about porting a # out of sprint and not being able to port it back under the same acct. Is this true? If.so, is it true for other carriers? I'd like to be able to port out, port back in in a month or so (to be considered a new customer), and be able to keep the same #.

It goes by SSN on Sprint (not by phone number which can be moved in and out at will anywhere any way without being tracked or restricted and is not a factor). You have to completely shut down all plans under any given SSN for 45 days before being considered a new customer.

Problem is, this offer may not still be open 45 days later.

If you have another SSN (spouse etc) you can get around it that way.

Some here have done that. They can give you more details.

I already have 5 numbers and 6 months in the free byod plan. I still have to be creative and look for a ssn to use. Once I find a ssn, can I activate with a throwaway number, and one by one port in my 5 numbers? And since I have my throw away number as my first line, can I port it out eventually so I can have all my 5 original numbers back in? TIA.

One or two people have reported deleting their first number or porting over it so it seems you can in practice if you just do it. That's not to say they are going to confirm ahead of time that it is A-OK.

But basically it seems you can do anything that you can do on the paid plan unless it says otherwise in the terms.

I am inclined to agree but they claim it does not cost them any more for the first year than other methods of new customer acquisition (including paying off balances, two-phones-for-one offers, and other expensive new customer promotions).

I don't think these customers will really stay past a year though unless Sprint makes a fantastic offer to keep them (which I suppose it could). Probably it is all mainly to keep the numbers as high as possible while they explore other game plans such as cable company mergers etc.

Thanks! I wasn't sure I worded my post correctly, but you got it spot on. So sprint goes by Ssn since it's postpaid and fp, metro, cricket, boost, etc. Go by phone# since it's prepaid. Right? Incidentally, how long does it take for MetroPCS to regard you as a new customer. Porting out to other non-tmobile carrier, porting back into MetroPCS. 30 days?
I know that some people don't care about their # and just buy one and port it. Others do some stuff with GV, but I rather keep it simple.

I think you can't port a # from boost to Sprint since the former is an mvno of the latter. However, you could port a # from an unrelated carrier (it doesn't have to be active w/ your boost E4. I also think since the phone works on boost, it should work on sprint. If it doesn't, the cheapest phone you can get is a 16gb E4 w/Amazon Ads for $100. There are more knowledgeable ppl on here than I, just wanted to chip in a bit.

Boost E4 is locked to Boost until you use it on there for 1yr then it'll unlock to use on any carrier

VZ Moto E4 that's unlocked won't work on Sprint since Sprint won't whitelist the VZ IMEI

You can buy a factory unlocked E4 and use it on Sprint -- you can also look for a factory unlocked Moto G4 or G5 if there's any deals going on

Right prepaid carriers are mostly not interested in SSN because they do not do credit checks usually. Since postpaid carriers do, they use the SSN that they have from that to their advantage in tracking customer accounts.

Sprint and other postpaid carriers often have special offers that they want to make sure are NOT available to existing customers. So they do it by SSN. This offer is a good example.

A few prepaid operators sometimes have had offers that are only available to new customers, but they are uncommon and most do not really define what a new customer is. A lot probably would define it by phone number, but a few might go by name and address. Usually prepaid carriers do not try too hard to prevent existing customers from taking new offers because it is very hard for them to enforce it effectively.

There was lots of talks of merger between T-Mobile and Sprint during October~November. http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/04/n...index.html

I think that by giving free lines, Sprint is increasing it's value to investors or face value on merger. But then I look at Sprint Stocks and they fell 33% during last 6 months

I tired to add a new line to an existing free plan (but was disconnected) and I was told it was 1 yr from the date the line was added?

Is that true?

so I can continue cancelling a line then adding to get a free line if they still have the promo?
