As I said, the return period for the new phone ends January 31. I bought it from B&H Photo mid December. So if I don't return the phone by Jan 31, then I can't return it at all. And they won't send me a replacement until they have mine in hand so they can check it out. All that will take about 3 weeks, which will take it past Jan 31.

Regarding your G5, I don't know. Many of these phones that qualify are prepaid phones, including my G4 Plus, so that makes no sense. Did you try the eligibility page?
https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/br...phone=byod
The page says I'm eligible, maybe the rep made a mistake. Why not buy the phone from Amazon or b&h and return the old one as the new one, Amazon is better since the shipping is faster and the cs is better.

Definitely rep's mistake. Try again with a different rep. I had MetroPCS which is prepaid and everything went smoothly. Side note: the rep asked me if my plan with previous carrier was prepaid and I said yes.

Because I only paid $150 for the phone. If I bought it from Amazon it would cost $230 plus tax and I'm not willing to do that. Seriously man do you think I didn't think of these things?

You are returning it, what's the difference how much it costs?

That makes no sense at all. If it helps you to understand this any, I would be exchanging it for another new one at the same rate. no offense, but if you can't answer the question that I asked originally, please stop messaging me

Guys, I don't know, but I just chatted with one of Sprint's reps and she told me that this promo will be activate until 2019. I asked again to be sure I understood correctly and she reiterated that it will indeed be active the whole year of 2018.

I'm actually trying to help you. If you return the OLD broken phone to Amazon they will refund you the money you paid for the NEW phone, meaning you won't pay anything for it and you'll gave gotten a working phone.

And my friend was told by a Sprint rep that it's ending at the end of January.

So you are suggesting for him to commit fraud. Fail, they probably track phone by IMEI.

He's not understanding you. I know what you are trying to tell him. But I think it is a really bad idea. Maybe there are ways for Amazon to find out if he did that.

You can always ask an Amazon rep first if they let you do that, I've asked them similar questions and they said yes.

Maybe he doesn't want to do something underhanded and illegal--returning the broken phone to someone other than the organization he bought it for? Maybe he's worried that Amazon sometimes checks the serial number and if it doesn't match, they'll flag his account for fraud.

When you give advice, remember that not everyone is a crook.

To be fair, I also gave the option of getting another one from b&h...

Do you have any real intell about when this promo will end? I called Sprint but all they will say is that their notes say "it's a limited time offer". I bought a phone that has a sporadic but serious glitch. I only have until Jan 31 to return/exchange it. If I do that, I won't get the replacement in time to take advantage of this promo if it ends on Jan 31, so I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do. It doesn't make sense to keep a phone I know has a serious glitch, but I don't want to miss the promo either. I don't own a backup phone that will work with this promo to use in the interim. Any ideas?
There is no way to know re the end of the promo. At past month-ends, we have had supposedly solid info. posted by Sprint corporate staff here that said there was an internal memo that it would not be extended, and then it was extended anyway.

If it has been extended though, we may know by mid-day on the 31st from the Telesales staff as they are often told by then.
