The saga continues. Made a call to sprint after failing to get my ID verified in-store today. Telesales informed me that the sprint store I went to was not a corporate store. Closest corp store is 35 miles away which is not convienent. She suggested that if I can't make it to a corporate store to try a different third party store again. Said it would be okay to have the third party store create an account and verify my identity. Then call telesales afterwards to get on the promo. Does this sound legit?
That's actually the normal procedure for involving the store that others have used. I was going to post it for you earlier.
The store sets up a new empty account for you.

Preferably, do NOT let them create a plan of any type though, or add your phone, as noted by others.

Just verify the identity and set up the account.
The go home and call TeleSales to fill up the just-created empty account with the free BYOD Plan.

Numerous people have done so.

No. Do not do that. According to the wiki, you'll regret it. It has become obvious that Sprint intends to make you have a hard time with your SSN. Is there another SSN that you can use? Spouse, child, etc.?
So frustrating. I've done everything for 3 days to attempt to be a sprint customer again and as usual Sprint has made it difficult. Aside from driving 45 minutes out of my way when I don't have time to visit a corporate store that is still not guaranteed to work. I explained to Sprint that I appreciate that they are taking fraud seriously. But its made it really difficult to become a customer again. I even answered the security question associated with my old account and that wasn't enough proof for them.

As for using another social security number I'm not going that route. I shouldn't have to find hacks and work arounds just to open a new line. I just transfered my other line to Verizon 3 weeks ago and I was in and out of the store in 25 minutes. Smooth as silk. Sprint was late to the LTE game and their coverage can be spotty. But the drama and hassle I've witnessed over the last 10÷ years has a lot to do with their drop to last place among the big 4.

Thanks for the clarification, looks like I was writing my last rant during your reply. Ill give it one more shot tomorrow but after that I'm done.

If the next store does not want to do it either, I would call Telesales then and there in the store.

There is not likely to be any further problem once you get a store that will do it, oddly enough, but the next likely problem will be afterward, after you are back home and calling Telesales, in the area of the phone you want to use and the sim possibly not matching etc. Have you got all those details lined up ? Have you checked that the phones IMEI's are eligible in the eligibity checker and are you sure you have the right sims for them?

I agree with you that this whole eligibilty proof area is a nightmare. It is not restricted to Sprint (although I blame Sprint for using the identity service). I barely squeeked through the Sprint identity test by guessing the wrong answers they were looking for as opposed to the right ones that they would not accept.

But just for your amusement, (not related to Sprint or this offer) the US Postal service nonetheless failed me on a set of similar questions signing up for an (unrelated) service they offer, and told me I had to go in person to a post office to prove my identity. Sound familiar? They said there is no way of correcting the erroneous data in the identity verification service database.

Lol. I didn't even think of calling telesales right there in the store. That would be funny and embarrassing at the same time.

As for the other details I think I have it squared away. I checked the phones IMEI number on the promo page and it accepted it. It said the phone was ellible. I went to Best Buy and picked up a Sprint/Boost/Virgin sim card SIMOLW416Q that should work with the S8. I have my Cricket account number and PIN available for the port. Hopefully no other problems.

Try this:
Call back the 1-866-782-8777 tel # that's dedicated to the Free BYOD Offer.
Tell the rep that you went to the store and they can not check your ID because they have no account # for you and they can not create one.
Tell the rep to create an account for you and give you the #.
Ask for a supervisor if the rep doesn't want to do it, and tell them that you're caught in the middle between the Sprint stores and the Sprint phone dept.
If you have an account # before going to the Sprint corporate store the ID check will work with no problems.
It worked for me because what I say above actually happened to me.
If you get connected to the Philippines Sprint operation, the reps there are more competent and can accomplish things.
They're 13 hours ahead of the US ET and I think they work from 4am-12noon Manila time.

Don't be discouraged, having a year's worth of free unlimited everything cell service is worth it, heck, for 5 lines it can be worth over a couple of thousand $$$.

Also keep in mind that cellular service prices/costs are decreasing and a year from now there'll be better paid deals available when this free plan expires.

Thanks OP! Had two unlocked iPhones eligible to move from TMo to sprint. Couldnt start it online and it asked me to call the number. Called the number and routed to credit dept. After checking basic info, was told to go to local sprint location but before they could give the account number for reference, the call got disconnected. They didn't call me back.
Called back the number. This time the sales rep said "There is no reason for you to go to the store; our credit dept will take care it". Sure enough this time the credit dept. asked some public info question and approved 5 lines
Then the sales rep shipped two SIMs for $10 total. Better than the online purchase which would have added the SIM cost. Recd. the SIMs yesterday. The same rep called back today to activate lines. 20 min total. All done.
Now, here is the catch. When I checked the "mysprint app", I noticed a $13 fee for TEP Plus, which is their insurance plan and I didn't sign up for it. Had to chat with them to take it off. Hopefully it'll be taken care and I don't have to ask them again. So, two lines working now in this free plan.

Thanks to all the people who posted their comments and suggestions.

They will cancel future charges and credit the existing charge.
So I would expect the existing charge to continue to show. It will never be literally taken off. But it wll be credited back in a credit elsewhere on your account. Just mentioning this as some people are confused by this way they do it.

You CAN change your number; however, you will NOT be able to choose a specific number.

I called back this morning and asked if I had an account number so that I could give it to an in-store rep. They didn't have an account number for me not was the application number valid. So the rep decides to set up the account again which meant another credit pull. This time however, when it came time for the credit check the rep asked me 4 question that I verified and I received credit approval on the spot. So they gave me an account number, PIN number, and security question. Unfortunately I didnt have my wife's phone or the sum card handy so it will require another call back later today. But at least that hurdle is cleared. Hopefully no snags when it comes time to port.

How long it takes to see the credit applied to the account? I cancelled protection plan about 2 weeks ago and still see the charge on my bill. Bill is due in a week....any ideas? should I call? or still wait?
