Woke up to 2 messages and a 3rd missed call from Sprint calling about my account. Maybe because of my email to Matci I guess (she emailed back just a standard apology/we'll investigate type thing). Two of them were separate agents, they mentioned the ID questions, one of them said something about they can give me a new set of questions, it's no big deal.

However I did not get around to calling back until 3pm and neither answered. I left messages.

One also gave me this number. 888 639 6116. He said to call if he wasn't in, as any credit agent could give me the new ID questions. That number is horrible, it's literally nothing but ad after ad (hearing aids, insurance, you name it), with no way through that I can see. even an ad for switching to Tmobile, funny when it's supposedly a Sprint affiliated number. I figured out most ads would say at the end "press 1 if interested, # if not" so I just started skipping them all with #. They still literally never end.

Maybe have to get back at it Monday unless the agents call me back. Sprint really seems like a bargain basement company, but if I can get free service I dont care. Interesting that they were so interested in calling me back, I feel like they may be going to try to upsell me everything under the sun.

edit: you have to call 800 639 6116. not 888. that number works. on with them now.

Edit 2: despite passing the questions this time they gave me the "go to the Sprint store with 2 forms of ID" rigamarole. Oye. Oh well not like I have anything better to do LOL. I'm going to look back in the thread but anyone know offhand the best 2 forms of ID to bring?

According to what I read online I'm not that optimistic about the Store visit going well either. We'll see.

The store ID should go fine. Many people have to go through that.
It's just more of the Sprint glitchiness that we know and love.
Priority should be getting on the plan. They could pull the plug at any time

That's actually very encouraging to hear that you could get a retry without waiting the 60 days because I am probably going to have the same problem. I cancelled my prior free BYOD Sprint account to start over for an additional full free year and am waiting out the 45 days you have to be off to start over. But I had a hard time passing the id questions last time and it will be the same this time.

It is not just Sprint. The United States Postal Service and others use the same quizzes. I was actually denied a USPS online delivery account because I could not give the "right" (actually wrong) answers they were looking for (bad data in the database they outsource to) The ID verification is actually outsourced by all these companies to LexisNexis or Equifax.

I actually wish I could just go a store with ID. It would be a lot easier than these identity quizzes. Hmm, maybe I will try that.

That is great that Marci helped you out by putting you in contact with the right people. But what about all the poor souls who get rejected and do not know they have recourse?

I would bring as many forms of id as you have handy just in case - driver's license, passport, social security card, utility bill, bank statement. You do not need that many but that is just to be safe.

The store visit went well, had a very knowledgeable and helpful rep, seemed to be a manager type. funny thing is he kept repeating surprise that the plan existed. He knew nothing of it. I kept telling him it was online only. He was shocked what a good deal it was. I had to pull the webpage up on my phone to prove it existed. He even asked my permission to mail himself the link from my phone.

Anyways he supposedly set me up with a temp account...or something. I had to talk to another phone rep (he handed me his phone, that he called them on) so I had to do the (difficult, well one about what year a car I owned 25 years ago was, I really dont know!) ID questions for the THIRD time! Indeed Sprint is very incompetent. I passed though.

I was busy so now it's 9:45 PM and I assume it's too late to call Sprint back, plus I wonder is my phone situation supposed to be sorted before they turn it on? Because as of now I dont know if my S8 will work on Sprint...

Regardless it'll probably have to wait, have to be up at 5AM. Will not really have time until Monday after 6PM (though possibly I could find a second before then), hope there's no issues with that.

Edit: Nevermind, called, got the account all set up, a lot of Sprint CS is quite friendly. Now all I gotta do is sort getting my phone working!

Yeah the store sets up an empty account with no plan.
Then when you are ready next week you create a plan in it by calling the 8777 number. I am sure it can wait a few days or a week or two even until you make some progress hopefully with the phone.

Sprint must be very happy that the media are so incompetent, with no real independent coverage of available offers, that the plan is still largely unknown, and so it has not hurt their regular plan sales. If it had done so, they would have killed it many months ago. They even have just launched some other offers that are not nearly as good.

Never mind I called in and set it up. the best part is, like magic, when I put my Sprint sim in this time,my phone did indeed completely rebrand itself as Sprint after a couple reboots. Very neat.

I speedtested and got 16.9mbps down, better than my Cricket speed limited to 8mbps. at my house anyway. Tomorrow I can test at school where I really need it to work....

So yeah, the comments saying you have to flash to either unbranded or Sprint FW, with the Cricket S8 from the Cricket $350 deal. proved incorrect for me. the phone rebrands itself. really neat.

One more Q though....I ported over the throwaway Tmobile # (now Cricket for one month) that I used to get the S8 Cricket deal. NOT my main # (which is also Cricket).

This is fine while I figure out tomorrow if it works where I need it to, at school (in the past Sprint had issues there), but if it does, is there anyway to get my other "good" number transferred over to be the # on this sprint line??

Should be fine if you port it in on top, preferably through tech. support and not through sales.

One or two people have posted that they did it no problem. That is enough for me although some posters here expressed fears/doubts but I saw nobody have an actual problem.

If you have voice problems at school try Wifi Calling if they have wifi, or LTE Calling beta..

Good to hear no flashing needed. Cricket must have had a newer update that was not shown on support page.
The last update shown was (G950USQU1AQK5) which still had bootloader 1 and didn't think had multi carrier.

I have a Galaxy S7 that was on T-Mobile's network. I believe the model number is SM-G930T. the screen is broke so I can't check, has anyone had luck using this model w/ the deal? If so, do I need to do anything extra, flash sprints firmware? etc.

No because Sprint will refuse to accept based on its IMEI which will still indicate it is a TMobile model.

There is always a chance, but it is doubtful in my opinion because the promo started in June 2017.

If they let it stay open to June 2018 there are going to be a zillion people trying to roll over their free plan one way and another.

There may be a hint in the announced last date of free service for new subscribers (which will be April 30 2019) that the plan will close out to new subscribers by April 30 2018 (but could even be earlier, even in March),

Also they are starting to announce other new promos in some areas which could be another hint. (eg https://www.fiercewireless.com/wi...-6-markets)

I have an virgin mobile iphone 5s from the Slickdeals year ago, get it unlocked and use in Ring plus until it stopped free plan.
I call 866-782-8777 to activate. I provide the phone IMEI and SIM card number (Virgin mobile original one) and number to port (it's T mobile prepaid I just get 3 days ago).
The Rep asked me about my personal profile: SSN, Address and permission for Credit check and phone number port. After about 2 minutes, she said I'm approved for up to 5 lines and ask me to create my Passcode and security question for my account.
She also tell me I can set up auto payment now with her or later online which I did with her.
After I put the SIM in and turn on the phone, it showed Sprint network but My phone number in setting of the phone is still the old phone number on Ring plus. I cannot call or received voice call (data access is O.K). I intend to call Sprint customer service but remember I have to update my Iphone profile by dial ##873283#.
After my network setting is update, I have everything working: voice, text, Lte...
I went to Sprint.com to create my account to verify my plan, it is good as expect.
Notes:
1) Sprint need my T mobile prepaid account (it is 1+phone number) and pass code (4 digit pin I created when open my prepaid account).
2) Sprint asked me to buy device protect insurance which I declined.
3) For credit check only SS number asked no other question.
I hope with this information it will help any one to activate the phone without to buy the new SIM
