After porting out of Tello, how long did you need to stay on AT&T Prepaid before signing up to Sprint?
Immediate BUT for a phone that has been on a Sprint mvno, you will have to get it pushed pack to postpaid from mvno status on the Sprint database. Tello might do that on request, or if they refuse, LiterallyUnllmited will do it for you through Ting if you contact him on reddit (NOT through Ting directly) Search for posts by LiterallyUnlimited on this thread for details.

Until that is done, you will get an error "money owed to Sprint" when trying to activate on Sprint postpaid.

Probably needed for the "Voice Call Continuity" feature which is new on S9 (has to do with VoLTE I think).

Does the Mate SE work with this plan?
No it does not support CDMA:

It's worth noting that the Huawei Mate SE is a GSM device, meaning Sprint and Verizon customers should steer clear.

Thanks! I am on Wing, another Sprint mvno. Not sure if Wing would do the status change, but I could give it a try.

Only a few MVNO's have bothered to implement the full API given them by Sprint. Actually Wing might because they are impressive.

Otherwise you can get LiterallyUnlimited to do it.

Sprint prepaid phones are no go though. What phone is it?

it's a sim-free fully-paid iPhone directly from Apple Store.

Quick follow-up question on timing for the status change request, I assume the request should be made after porting out of Sprint mvno to ATT prepaid is done, correct?

Oh. If unbranded S9+ is like unbranded S8+, it will not get Visual Voicemail or LTE Calling on Sprint.

If you had got Sprint S9+, it would have all Sprint features and you could have unlocked it in 50 days and it would still have all Sprint features..

I am not criticizing, just letting you know.

However you will probably be able to flash it to a branded unlocked version later. Arguably, given that you can flash it later, you are just as well off because you can use the unbranded versioin on all 4 carriers right away (but based on a more basic common feature set for now).
I was fully aware of that. Neither feature is a big deal for me and I much prefer the cleanliness of the unlocked model. I will try out both though and report back, in the next day or two, although my Premium Visual Voicemail Trial just expired...

Yes LiterallyUnlimited has said it should be off Sprint and its mvno's first.

Very good.
It is always possible that the S9 situation is improved over the S8 situation re the limitations on the unbranded / unlocked version.

So if I port out to H2O then open a new account with wife's SSN I can port the numbers back in?

Is H2O hassle free when porting back to Sprint? I believe they won't give you the account PIN or info unless you buy credit...

H2O won't give account number for 3-5 days -- you also need to add min $10 and make 3 calls/texts for account verification

TMo pay go prepaid should work unfunded

ATT pay go prepaid you'll need to add some funds -- not sure what amount recently (used to be $5+tax if you used flip phone IMEI for activation)

Port out in afternoon/evening -- port back in next morning under diff name/SSN

So it's been about 2.5 weeks since I finally got in on the promo. I have to see that in my 10+ years on SD, this was probably the slickest deal I've taken part of. I would have jumped on it much earlier had I not bought a 1 year Mint Sim deal in March 2017. As it turns out, timing was perfect.
