Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

It says my phone is eligible. What's the catch? Sounds too good to be true.
I agree. It seems too good to be true but it's legit.
I read an article somewhere months ago regarding why Sprint would do something like this.
Short version: It costs them very little to sign up new accounts. No marketing costs. They get competitors customers. Hopefully some will stay after the free year. This was fashioned after a small European cellular provider, can't remember the name.
Enjoy your free year

I have a Moto e4 that's factory unlocked and it's IMEI doesn't qualify for one year Sprint promotion. Should I get the mvno flag of the device flipped too?
Only if it passes Tello. If it fails Tello then the problem is not the mvno flag.

I'm planning to take advantage of this free one year plan, is it ending soon?
The end will not be announced ahead of time but looks good to end of April minimum and plausibly to end of May. Activating now or in May gets the same end date (end of May a year from now) in either case so there is no advantage to waiting.

I know I've seen it in this thread before, but what happens when you apply online and you are not given a PIN at the end?

It's really hard to search the thread for PIN since that 3 letter combo appears in other words
I never activate by web but I seem to recall that some people posted that the web page is always blank that the code comes via email. Or was that in some other context?

So what happens if the moto E4 is locked? is it possible to get it unlocked after it is purchased from ebay?
Most unlocks are only GSM unlocks.
Send a question to the seller before you buy if it will work on Sprint postpaid. If they reply that it will, and you have that written response on file, then you can probably return it if it will not.

However there are occasionally issues with locked E4's so it may not be the best one to buy used.

Other than that, you need to ask the seller where he got the phone and investigate whether those are typically sim-locked.

I just signed up with this BYOD plan. I was previously on the Sprint Sero plan, but his should apply to anyone that currently has sprint service and an iphone. I stopped by the Apple store and asked one of the employees there for a t-mobile sim (I want to get on my brother's family plan, can I have a t-mobile sim). They brought one out from the back and gave it to me no charge or hassle.

I called the number on the sim card and followed to prompts to activate a new sim, prepaid service. There's a great summary in the wiki, ref that if you need exact steps. I told the T-mobile rep that I wanted to port my phone number from sprint to a prepaid plan. I gave him my name, account number, sprint pin. They ported it over while I was on the phone with them. Total time = 10 min.

I then had my wife call the BYOD number to port over from tmo to sprint. Failed because she failed the credit check over the phone - she forgot a street that she used to live on. smh

I then had her sister call in later to do the port - total time on phone approx 35-40 min. Have your imei number ready, sim number, ssn, address, email, tmo pin, tmo account number, cc #, etc ready. This time it went through, and they said it would take 30min to 1 hr to activate. 1 hr later, lte but no phone service even after 2 hrs. Follow up phone call with sprint got moved over to tech support.

They had me dial ##873283# 2 min later, the phone activation update is complete and I now have phone and lte service working. Hopefully there will be a new promo a year from now, if not, I'll just pay for the service and be happy that I had a year for free service.

thanks to all that came before me and posted in the wiki, you helped me tremendously. (I probably wouldn't have had to wait the whole 2 hours, if I had read the wiki, but in my defense, it is a long wiki...) I didn't do the port myself as I still have other lines that I hadn't moved over yet. I'll now do the other lines since I can do 5 lines under the one account name/ssn #
Thanks for the helpful post! To clarify, you had to use your wife's SSN to get the BYOD plan right? I'm still currently on the SERO plan and would love to do the BYOD but I'm guessing that they won't let me use the current SSN I have registered to my SERO plan to do the BYOD plan??

Yes use family members SS.
Remember you must port numbers in from a Sprint competitor.
So once you have an account setup with one number you can Port your Sero phone lines out of Sprint. Then put them back in to the new account.
It's rather a common sense thing, they're not interested in converting paid customer to free BYOD customers. Good luck. See you on BYOD express. Woooowooo

is a fine Sprint mvno with a less ambiguous (for newbies) checker than Ting has.
Ideally try all of Sprint, Tello, Ting checkers.

Note, this is NOT just looking for a Yes answer but looking for any differences in the results between the three to post those results here so that people diagnostic what they suggest in a given problem case for a given phone.

Seller stated that he got the phone at Sprint and can't unlock it. Don't I temporary need to set up service with someone other than Sprint in order to eventually get in on the year free plan? Can I buy an unlocked code on eBay or can consumer Cellular completely lock it down

No you do not need the phone to be active elsewhere.

It is the PHONE NUMBER that needs to be ported in from elsewhere (even a "number for porting" from EBay works). The phone does not have to be active on that number or on any number.

If it really came from Sprint you do not need an unlock code to use it on Sprint.

Actually, it should be ok in my opinion since it passed the Sprint MEID/IMEI test. If it were a Sprint prepaid phone, it would not pass that test. See if others here agree.

If it is Consumer Cellular now though, he could be lying and maybe it was bought from and locked to Consumer Cellular. It would be unusual to buy a phone for Sprint and move it to Consumer Cellular (which is overpriced and mostly sells the phones to its dumb users in my opinion). It is possible though.

Wait a minute, I got the two phones confused. The consumer cellular phone is the one that the guy is saying he can't unlock. the phone that is the Sprint phone is the other IMEI and that person I have yet to receive confirmation if you can unlock it

You do not need to unlock a Sprint phone to use it on Sprint so should be ok then.

If it can be unlocked Sprint will unlock it for you after 50 days on your account on Sprint too.
