Sprint has been unlocking the G6 Play. I've had one unlocked and I'm waiting for the second one to get unlocked. I was using it on AT&T and didn't notice any problems. HD Voice (Volte) was working but no wifi calling. I was able to get 40 Mbps on AT&T. I did notice that I wasn't seeing as many available LTE bands compared to my Galaxy S8 Plus, but it was a quick survey.
I received an email from Sprint my g6play is unlocked but can't get it to work on cricket. Besides rebooting and unlocking uicc, anything else you did to get it to work?

Did Sprint say your g6play bootloader unlocked?

If they forgot to lock the bands and/or the bootloader is unlocked, it would indeed be a slick deal.
Um.... what do you mean bootloader unlocked??? I just went into developer mode and there is OEM unlocking, and I can enable it, However it disables device protection while turned on. so I didn't do it...

I'm not sure what I'm doing at this point... So I'm gonna stop, but take a look at this.

That looks like SIM unlock to me. I don't believe there is a way to unlock the bootloader without the signing key from the manufacturer. It's not theoretically possible due to how cryptography works.
Yes, I ment to say sim unlock.

The "oem unlock" option needs to be turned on to allow the bootloader unlock process via command line tools. It's too complicated to explain but the only way for that to happen is to get a key from the manufacturer (i.e. not Sprint). If anyone wants to try (and void your warranty on software defects):

https://motorola-global-portal.cu...r-device-a

However, if Sprint didn't happen to lock the bands on these phones then it doesn't matter that much, although you'd be one Sprint system update away from it being locked up if Sprint decides so.

As far as I know when Sprint postpaid unlocks phones after 50 days on request under its published unlock policy, it unlocks all bands including GSM and there is no need to unlock the bootloader. I realize you might like the latter for other reasons.

SIM unlock has nothing to do with band lock.

The point is they unlock both by published policy after 50 days.

The Boost G6 Play price is subsidized, as are all Boost phones, in exchange for a commitment to use them only on an undiscounted paid Boost plan.

That is why this is a loophole only. It cannot be intended.
