It shouldn't matter. No matter whose name and SSN are tied to the acct that has nothing to do with the phones/lines/numbers.

So if FIL puts the acct in his name / SSN and ports first then MIL, then FIL leaves after a year, MIL's service will continue just FIL will get billed (which I assume shouldn't really matter).

If they don't want that, then start the acct until MIL's name and SSN and port FIL's phone over then MIL's when it arrives.
Awesome! Thank you. Makes sense.

Piece of crap Sprint!!! You get what you pay for!

Attempted to port two S8s from Verizon. Devices completely paid off and are out of contract with month to month service.
You can see the idiocy reaking from these guys at Sprint. It's like you're talking to a four year old if not worse. Had to repeat the SIM card number over 5 times, repeat the phone numbers or MEID numbers over ten times and god oh god, that accent; that rolling RRRRRRRRRRR. I felt like I was talking to a motor cycle.
Anyway, after getting the first set of numbers to work for the first line, the idiot at Sprint couldn't port the number out stating there was a "System Maintenance". You can see he's lying and just simply did not know what the eff he was doing.
The delay caused me to stay with Verizon one more day into the new billing cycle which I know Verizon will prey on me and bill me for the entire month even though I may only end up using few hours worth of service.

The most annoying is the effing RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

i just activated my pixel 2 xl with Sprint today and my phone is having an issue. I can receive and place call/text but i have no data at all.

did anyone pixel user experience the same? any advice or resolutions out there?

After speaking with the tech and not able to solve anything, they told me they'll call back in 1-2 days..
I'm using a pixel 2xl on the byod plan and everything is working as expected. You could try a few troubleshooting steps like rebooting, go to mobile network settings and update prl and device config, etc. This should definitely reset the data connectivity settings.

I just paid the $3 but sure, why not try other peoples' tips to save even that.

I could not give you every detail. It was a mess with account numbers, numerous calls, waits on hold etc. Basically you have to just wing it through the whole process as it can be messy. I did it twice as I ported out of Free plan to TMO to back into Sprint kickstart. Then I did not like kickstart and ported that out and back into Fee plan via TMO the next day using the same sim which was tricky.

Sprint noticed the round trips but did not care after I said I just wanted to try kickstart.

You can port right back in once you port out, but you better make sure it is all the way over or you can create a real mess. I did not really wait but I checked various ways.

Others probably have comments.

I found TMO porting dept. even worse than Sprint Porting dept. Let us know what you find.

I was thinking of using a GV number next time. I think the carrier GV uses around here in Raleigh would be ok for porting in and out.
Actually the SIM # costs $3.25, but it should be instant instead of waiting for a SIM to arrive. The wiki says this promo ends June 30th.

Has anyone done activation of TMO and port-in number from Sprint completely on TMO website without calling TMO? I tested with valid TMO sim number and phone IMEM and $3 Pay N Go on TMO activation website and quite last checkout page in which credit card is asked.

Isn't it free if you call and get the Pay As You Go plan, but not add minutes?

I created my new Sprint BYOD unlimited account last week with a new unlocked G5+. I then added a Project Fi Nexus 5x that was on Ting (and, eek, Ringplus).

Anyway, I have an unlocked Moto G4 plus to bring from Ting. I have a unused TMO sim # but don't have the physical sim or activation code.

Will I be able to get off of Ting and onto TMO with just a sim#? I realize I may need to contact the /u/LiterallyUnlimited to get PLBL to SBCS switched before porting from TMO to Sprint. If I can't port my number out of TMO, that's ok (I'll pay $3 to port out of GV) and if I have to pay $3 to TMO, that's ok too. I mostly want to make sure I get off of Sprint databases and don't care too much about saving the phone number.

----

FWIW, When porting my Nexus 5x from Ting to TMO's pay-as-you-go plan (used a Mint sim and paid $3 to TMO), the account number WAS NOT the 1+phonenumber. It was a separate 9 digit number. I also did have to contact ProjectFi to deregister it before the Sprint BYOD checker showed it eligible. A pain but worth it because Sprint seems so much better than Sprint MVNO.
