10GB hotspot >>> Hulu + 0.5GB hotspot

I know there's always USB tether, but the native is so much nicer. Still 0.5 > 0.0.
Isn't USB tethering counted in the 500 MB, or is that somehow excluded?

It depends.

If you use the native tethering of the phone, it counts in your hotspot quota only.

If you use a third party app such as PDANet+, it counts in your general Hi-Speed Data Quota only.

I use both on and off all the time so I am sure.

You cannot use Boost phones on Sprint postpaid. Boost Moto G6 Play is a rare exception and may not last forever.
Thanks. If I bought him an UNLOCKED Moto E4 from eBay could I activate on the Sprint free plan?

Can I buy him an unlocked Moto E4 from eBay and use the free plan as long as I port in a number? I assume if I got one of the Verizon Moto's that is now unlocked that it would work? Or I guess I can really buy any unlocked phone from that list on eBay? Is that right? Does it matter if the phone I am buying was already on Sprint with the prior user or is it all about the fact I am porting a new TMobile number?

So no more 10gb hotspot which sucks. Is rooting the only other option to get this on a s8? Or can I use pdanet + ?

I signed up in between and noticed I dont have any hotspot. Can I have this added?

Most of the cheap Verizon Moto E4's are prepaid and do not have Sprint bands and so will not work. Some E4's will work.'

Phones that have been on Sprint mvno's are locked to Sprint mvno's only until you get the mvno flag reset by LiterallyUnlimited on reddit. Once that is done, they will activate usually. Ideally you should check the IMEI on Sprint's checker (not some other checker).

Yes other phones can work but some only partly if they do not have all Sprint bands.

Overall you are FAR better off to just use the Boost Moto G6 Play for $80 at Walmart. That has Visual VoiceMail and Wifi Calling which most alternatives do not have. How much is 5 or 10 hours of your time worth pursuing other alternatives?

PDANet will work fine for USB tethering on S8. I have one and use it all the time. The phone does not need to be rooted.

If you can get the hotspot at all it will be only 512 meg. at most for recent signups.

It is more that it is a large phablet for a small 11yr old. He really wants a Samsung J3 but an E4 would be good. I guess I can just force it on him. Are there other good phones I could consider in the 50 to 75 range that would be plentiful and easy to set up?

What is involved with getting the flag reset?

Others may likely suggest some if you give it a day.

I mean if you really want you can try a Boost J3 or J7 as the reps occasionally might let one through but odds are not favorable, that's all. Or if you can find a Sprint non-Boost model J3 or J7 used, that should be ok.

Despite the list, any Sprint phone (non prepaid) can be used with some effort (need to call in, occasionally have to swap it on etc.)

I have read through the wiki several times and over 20 pages of replies and called Sprint 6 times to try and find an answer to no avail.

I have 3 lines with the promo ending 7/31/18. I'm eligible for up to 5 ilnes. If I add a new line today, will that line's promo end date be 7/31/18 or 9/2019? Half of Sprint reps answered the 9/19, but it does kind of depend on my tone of voice and phrasing when I speak to them. Also, will there be another hard credit check today (how long is my original credit check last year valid for?) It would be helpful to know SD'ers experience trying this so that I could avoid wasting time and an unnecessary hard credit check to get an additional line with promo ending in 6 days. Thanks.

If you add a new line today under your EXISTING plan, it will have the terms of your EXISTING plan. Therefore, it will end 7-31-18 which means don't do it. You'll need to port out, and port in accordingly using a different SSN or wait out the 45 day period (for Sprint to see you as a "new" customer)

Thanks. It is for 11yr old so not "mission critical" which is why I was potentially interested in taking a free year. My other option is Cricket which is where I personally use service. Im not a lover of Sprint in general. I am willing to jump thru a few hoops to save 280 bucks which is what I would pay for a year of Cricket. That said I don't want to be futzing around every few weeks on hold with Sprint reps trying to get sh⅞t restored again. I really would like to sign up once and live out the year and then reassess from there. Why does it require swapping in the phones again and again? Or are you just saying that if I pick a phone that is NOT on the list then I may have to do that?

I got an extra line for the heck of it. Now I have a relatively inexpensive phone I can use solely for working out and driving (GPS and music streaming). I got the Boost Mobile Moto G6 Play which is honestly a fantastic value for the specs and 4000 mAh battery. Plus, it already has the SIM card in it already so you don't have to waste time figuring out which Sprint SIM card you need.

My taxes in Chicago suburbs (Dupage County) ends up being $4.65 per month which isn't bad at all.

Not only that, I have T-mobile on my main line. Because I now use less than 2 GB on T-mobile since I use the Sprint phone for most of my data-intensive stuff, I qualify for the Kickback credit of $10.

I come out ahead! Yippee!!! worshipworship
