Just purchased a used Essential phone from Amazon. Trying to activate it online and receiving "Sorry, but our records show you still owe Sprint for this device. Sign in to find this device on your account." Ting, Swapped, etc show it as clear.

Tried starting a Clickit Ticket but apparently the systems are down. Assume someone just swapped out their unpaid phone and I'm SOL?

I signed two phones on july 12 and 1 phone on july 14. They all have 10g hotspot. I received a call today from a sprint person told me that my plans dont come with hotspot. I explained to her that I signed my first phone on the 12, which included the hotspots. She told me she had to talk to her manager and told me to wait. I waited for 2 minutes and then she hung up on me. Kinda weird that they treat their customers like this. They should have all the history on my transactions and including the contract they read at the signed up. Why do they try to remove hotspot for people that signed before july 12.
For that case first call back to General Support (not Telesales) as it could have been a dropped connection, then if still no dice contact Sprint Senior VP Marci Carris [email protected].

No not at all. As noted by edog11, that means device has been used on an mvno and will have to be pushed back to postpaid. Search posts in this thread by LiterallyUnlimited to learn more about it and he will fix it for you.

No, Sprint does not honor anyone else's concept of Unlocked except its own. It has records of whether a Sprint phone started as Prepaid or Postpaid.

I have found and used some Sprint phones from EBay that did start life as Postpaid. But they are needles in a haystack of mostly Boost phones.

Now, non-sprint-branded but eligible phones are ok too except you have to get the mvno flag flipped for them if it is on.
Ok I guess I need to read up on the Reddit thing.

Just keep in mind that that is only for non-Sprint-prepaid phones. It will not help with Sprint/Boost Prepaid phones. Those can never be activated regardless (except for a few rare exceptions). LiterallyUnlimited makes that very very clear.

So the hotspot offer seems to change day to day lately. If you sign up in the coming days, report back to this thread the status of your hotspot and how much data (if any) you are given for hotspot use.

Ok thanks. I'm not an expert of Sprint but arent there a lot of Sprint phones out in the resale market that I could buy? Surely they can't all have started as Boost phones. Or am I misunderstandiing what it is I need to seek in order to get on the free plan. Aren't there a bunch of phones that have all the bands? Or is it an issue that if you buy a Verizon phone then it doesn't have the right bands for Sprint. I am just confused as to what I should be targeting.

As long as you have unlimited internet, you can make it becomes unlimited hotspot

Like would this work? Doesn't appear to have been a Verizon based on the box?

I purchased the digital SIMs from ebay (4)
The porting went fine to Tmobile
I never got a Tmo PIN nor account number
now I cannot port back to sprint because sprint needs my tmobile PIN and account number

What do I do now?
You figure it out? With Tmobile the account number is 11 digits, just 1+ the10 digit phone number. The pin I was assigned (without asking or telling) was the same one I used at sprint.

I ended up going to the virgin inner circle plan because I didn't have another ssn I could use.
did the tmobile port and then ported to virgin inner circle. I figure I will wait the 45 days to become a new sprint customer. worst case the plan goes away but virgin uses the same sprint sim and the cost is only $1 per month for the first 6 months (unlimited everything) I didn't check speeds so I'm sure their throttled but seemed like the next best solution if I couldn't get on the sprint byod 1 year..

Others may be able to tell better than me what that phone is but the mpn does not agree with description to begin with.

The default assumption should be that low-cost E4's are Verizon Prepaids which will not work on Sprint even if unlocked. "Unlocked" often means hacked to work on GSM and does not cover Sprint.

If you buy a non-Sprint-branded phone, you will not have wifi calling and Visual Voicemail to begin with. This makes it a GROSSLY INFERIOR phone! It may not even work in your house AT ALL since it will lack Wifi Calling. And Voicemail will be far inferior. I would not even consider a phone that lacks wifi calling support with Sprint. You can get a phone worth 3 or 4 times as much for a mere $20 more (if even that) that has all Sprint features in the Boost Moto G6 Play so I do not even understand what your calculation is.

Yes there are phones that are Sprint postpaid phones on the resale market but I will leave that to others to recommend some.
