Road trip with Sprint? LOL..good luck with that as you will see lots of no signal areas. I had their service last year for a month and it cost me business. Forget trying to use date for a lookup while on a call. After numerous requests to them to stop sending statements, it finally stopped after 10 months from when I canceled. Life is too short to deal with these morons and their crappy network.

I'm headed east and coverage looks good. My wife has verizon, so were covered.
IMHO, all business travelers should be using verizon.
in my experience Sprint has good voice and text coverage for road trips, only 2nd to Verizon.

And Sprint voice roams on Verizon.and US Cellular in some places.

Port out. By calling in, they try to upsell or have you on hold for an hour.

I was afraid someone was going to say that. Any idea on the cheapest, fastest way to port out?

I don't need this sprint # anymore. I used google voice and already have another Cell #.

Don't know much about roaming, but i do have an upcoming road trip. How will i know if it's roaming? I think LTE discovery app should show it. Right?
If you look at the bands shown by it, you can tell a lot because we know which carriers use which bands.
The utility cannot always tell reliably what is roaming and what is not but the bands tell the story.
Voice and Data use different bands.
SignalCheck Pro is actually better for Sprint but you have to pay a few dollars - well worth it - as the free version does not show bands. It has all sorts of fine detail such as recognizing Sprint Magic Boxes.

You have to have a phone that supports appropriate bands of other carriers to be able to roam on them.

Extra $20 off is still there on the page but I think they made it less prominent maybe - you have to type in the coupon SUMMER at checkout.

https://www.boostmobile.com/phones/moto-g6-play.html [boostmobile.com]

https://slickdeals.net/coupons/boost-mobile/

I tested it in the cart and it does reduce the cost to $80.

Thanks for that. I should be good with my lg g6. Also taking along a moto g5 plus on sprint and a nexus6 on a trial basis with Unreal. Hope to do some comparisons when the wifey takes the wheel. Oh and also a nexus 6 on FP att.

As noted by others, you have to call in and talk to Account Services (aka Retentions) to cancel. And they will not free up the phone until the end of the billing period. (They may suspend charges, I do not recall).

So porting out is THE way.

You could also swap on a dummy phone to free up the phone right away but that way you would still have to close the account.

Thanks for the info and advice. Looking through my stack of SIM I found an old T-mobile SIM that could not be reused and an unused T-mobile compatible sim (sm128psimt5tod) which is valid on thier online checker! Note sure where I even got that sim!

Anyway, is there a way to get around signing up for a PayGo plan with T-mobile for $3/month when I port in, or do I just need to bite this bullet and give them my credit card info?

Thanks again.
