Awful company awful service
I lost 5 precious years of my life using their service (lack thereof) and won't go back for free even. Speaking with customer service was my second full time job those 5 years. Pitiful company
I'd love to hear an employee try to rebuttal THAT one. lol

Word of mouth is all I need to know to keep clear of all that mess.

I want to add another line to the free plan, any phone < $300 recommended? Thinking either Essential ($280) or Moto G5 Plus ($300). Thanks ahead for any input.

Unlimited free TMobile extended roaming starts soon if your phone has the TMO bands. Does it?

By the way, were you actually cut off at 200 MB? Some posted it is not enforced for most.

Areas I was at T-Mobile roaming would probably not have helped. I have an unlocked note8 (from Samsung, so no carrier branding). I'll have to check the bands.

But it was a full cut off. I noticed that I couldn't get google maps to search, and pulled up chrome on the phone and got the sprint warning.

Caution! We suspended your data roaming for phone # because you reached your monthly limit. As of 08/15/2018 at 04:32pm, you've used 200 MB. Data Roaming resets on 09/08/2018. Did you know you can conserve data by using your phone's Wi-Fi? Learn more about data roaming at

If you want access to all Sprint features you really need a Sprint-branded phone, the newer the better.

This includes Wifi Calling, Visual Voicemail, HPUE Signal Boost, roaming on TMO and AT&T, and soon VoLTE.

One such low-cost phone is Boost Moto G6 Play for $100. Officially Boost phones cannot go on Sprint postpaid, but people are able to get them on unofficially in almost all cases. We should see it on sale again for $80 soon. (VoLTE is not confirmed on this one).

Any other very recent Android phone that is sold by Sprint (or Boost subject to activation ability) will have most of these features too.

Ah very interesting!
TMO roaming will not be limited but would not have helped you in that area then.
They are also adding AT&T roaming but details of that are not fully clear yet.
Note 8 should be ideal, including the unlocked/unbranded model.

Oh wow. I was wondering why people were quoting posts from over a year ago. Some numbnut mod put this back on FP!

If they're gonna do that, they should at least have the decency of editing the OP so that it's up to date. Heeeeere comes a fresh round of repeat questions!
It probably originated from the marketing/ad sales side of SlickDeals in collaboration with Sprint. There was this article too:

I just activated the Essential on this plan and it's very highly recommended by me.

Beautiful phone, snappy specs, android pie update ready out of the box, and available now at bargain basement prices, got mine with that 15% eBay deal for $225

Sprint service has been surprisingly snappy and great, wish it had hotspot but at $4 in taxes a month it's a no brained and I'm made I didn't scoop up the essential sooner

Just my two cents

LOL LMAO
I know. I am not trying to defend sprint but why stay 5 years? Stockholm syndrome? Lol.

Anyways even if you are with Verizon or att and switch here and try it out for one month you can switch back to any other service without losing any money. What I am trying to say is if try one month with sprint and decide to switch back the activation fees that other companies would charge would be offset by the savings that you enjoyed when with sprint. So it's not a big deal at all

Was your prior bad experience with Sprint maybe based on an older phone lacking Sprint's newer bands and Wifi Calling?

First check if the port completed (as per the Wiki):

https://shop2.sprint.com/en/wlnp/check.shtml
Call: 866-437-1818

They may help activate it too.

If not, I would chat with support.

I am assuming everything completed in terms of signing up for the offer online or with TeleSales. If not, call them but I try to avoid talking to Sales when Support can handle it directly.
I called the number you provided, but they said that they could not port my number and instead tried to up sell me on transferring my phone number to a regular plan. I hung up on them. What a pain.

Ah I misunderstood.

I thought you were saying that you had already signed up for the plan and ordered the port and it was complete but then you were getting an error activating the phone.

i did say: "I am assuming everything completed in terms of signing up for the offer online or with TeleSales. If not, call them." I thought that was the stage you are already at.

You can't just port in your number to start the process.

First. you have to sign up with TeleSales at 866-782-8777 and go through a credit check and initiate the port there. Be sure to mention the FREE PLAN clearly. Sorry for the miscommunication.

The other departments cannot deal with signing up for the free plan which is why they suggested a paid plan.

That's all. Very straightforward problem and solution. It is not really ideal for them to split off the free plan so it is hard to find it within the company but that is what they have done in order to justify it cost-wise and keep ordinary paying customers from stumbling upon it.

You do have to go through TeleSales 866-782-8777 at the beginning to sign up in the first place (or signup online but I would not suggest that).

I think I understand now what stage you are at in this, but if I have misunderstood again, please post.
