Reading through the wiki I see that certain Moto Gs require a specific Sprint SIM card with no mention of the G4 play. Does the Moto G4 play have the same specific SIM requirement? Thanks

It is not mentioned because all Boost models always come with the required sim card already installed in the phone and you should never touch it.

If you looked up the sim card needed for the Moto E5/G6 Play you would not probably even get the correct sim card needed for the Boost Moto G4/G6 Play. Also do not get TeleSales involved in this because they also would assume you are using the non-Boost model and therefore would send you the wrong one and it would not work. In fact someone did that.

So order only the Sprint Plan only over the phone, not online, so that Sprint does not send you a useless sim (or throw away any sim card Sprint TeleSales sends you) and just leave the sim that came with the any Boost phone in it. This applies to Boost Moto E5 Play, Boost Moto G6 Play, Boost Moto E4 and any other Boost phone.

Boost 20% discount is back on with promo code SCHOOL. This reduces G6 Play back to $80 again as I predicted.

Thanks for all the info.
do I need to give them a phone number over the phone?
i think i may be doing a moto g6 instead because there is no hotspot, safer to have a bigger screen.

All recent Boost phones should have hotspot as far as I know (except this plan does not support it) Maybe very low end ones do not.

I assume you mean Boost when you refer to these models. You are leaving it out and I cannot tell for sure whether you realize that there are both Boost and non-Boost models of all of these models. And they are quite different because the Boost models are actually better, although cheaper, for Sprint.

Goof news! An extra 20% off again on the Boost side. That reduces Boost Moto G6 Play back to $80 again, as I predicted. Use promo code SCHOOL.

I meant signup for the plan over the phone with Sprint. You can order the phone on the Boost web site and certainly do not sign up with Boost.

Yes. You will need to port a phone number from a non-Sprint carrier in order to take advantage of this free Sprint plan.

I'm 100 days into my free year and one of my phones broke. Can I just buy a new phone on my own and then call and switch it with broken phone? Do I have to wait until 120 days? Do I need to buy new phone through Sprint?

I do not have a SIM card for port-out. I read wiki, and know ebay. But any cheaper way to have a non-Sprint phone number for port-out?

The 120-day wait is only for upgrades through Sprint. You can purchase your own Sprint compatible phone and swap phones at any time. Just be sure to have a Sprint SIM card that is compatible with the new phone.

I added a new line to my existing free 1 year plan. I noticed that the new line was allowing to get Hulu for free and I subscribed for it. Lets see if I am going to be charged anything for that.

Do you mean a new number to port in to Sprint?

You can use a Google Voice number for $3.

Or search "Number for Port" on Ebay for a variety of alternatives around $5.

Or you can use the way described in the wiki for around $3.50.

None of these require that you have a physical sim.

Look at your sprint online account and see if you have the purple upgrade banner for your phone. If so you can upgrade to the moto z2 that desi babu is referring to. Cost is 120 plus tax and $10 shipping. Or get the moto g6 boost phone that comintel has referred to and just swap that phone in place of the broken one.

WOW! This thread is still going.

My year is up this month and I'll be paying the $64/$45/$35 starting in September.

Are there any other good unlimited plans on another carrier which will be cheaper. This was great!!! I was paying about $13/mo for a year.

Thanks SD.

I have a non Sprint/Boost unlocked Moto G4 play. I guess I should verify the Sprint LTE bands will work. I found this info on the Motorola website, Moto G Play - XT1607 - CDMA (850, 1900 MHz) GSM / GPRS / EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS / HSPA+ (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 41)
