This is in the wiki, which you failed to read.

note: if using same SS number, u will be considered a new customer after 45 days of initial account closing.

I'm gonna have to move this note up.

I tested it once by inputting imei and sim info , then on next page look for 'more plans' and selected pay as you go. continued to checkout and as i recall you can port in your number or ask for a new number and then enter your CC info which obviously wants your home info and i believe the cost is $3 plus maybe taxes. That's as far as i went, so your input here is appreciated if you decide to do it that way.
Do you know if you get the opportunity to set up the PIN by this method? I think it might be worth the $3 to avoid the long hold times, but not if I have to call anyway to get the account number and PIN. Thanks.

After going through a crazy long process of getting my Google voice number ported over, I finally got my service working. I discovered on the site that they set me up with the wrong plan (freedom unlimited v28?) I chat customer service and they say that I just need to call to give verbal consent to switch plans which I finally do a couple days later (difficult because of my work schedule) I get transferred to cancellations/retention and they tell me the only way to fix this is to go to a Sprint store and ask a manager for help. This contradicts what's stated in this post. What should I do?

The only department that has the power to get you out of this is ACCOUNT SERVICES at 844 665-6327. This is not the regular customer service line or telesales. Act quickly.

Thanks for the advice. I called again and was able to have a ticket submitted to have it corrected. They said that it should be corrected within a week. Hopefully this is true..

Out of curiosity, did you call the number in the wiki and ask for the free plan? Did you do it online? I'm wondering at what step in the process did things go wrong.

Don't wait that long to get this corrected. call during the day and don't let them put if off. You only have a 14 day guarantee. If they can't correct it then and now you are better off porting out to close the account and get refunded. Then unfortunately you have to start over again.

I called the number in the wiki and asked for the free plan. During the process it all seemed like it was on track but I think things got messed up when my number failed to port. Myabe one of the agents helping me after messed it up. The thing that gets me though is how the guy I spoke to before my first post was totally unaware of this promotion and was questioning where I heard about it and asked if it was still active.

I need to use unlock service on eBay and it says that I need to make sure the iPhone does not have 'iCloud lock'. What does 'iCloud lock' mean and how can I make sure it does not have iCloud locks? Thank you.

Good question.

By the way I found out it is now supposed to be 15 days for an existing customer, 30 days for a brand new customer. It covers phone and service. I trust that should include service-only orders but have not fully confirmed that.

Did they read you the terms and conditions of the free plan and read you an expiration date and that after that date the plan will be charged at $60/mo. ( Or something similar).and have you agree to those terms? If so, you can relay this to account services. They truly messed up.

But i'm confused about your last sentence. Do you mean the the guy you contacted through chat?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that means you were not talking to Account Services aka Retentions.

They have to know about the Free plan in order to be able to make Retention offers.

The ones I spoke to certainly did.

Maybe these department names are too complicated and just blend together in people's minds and we should just tell people to talk to "Cancellations" as that is unambiguous.

Unfortunately any of the phone numbers go to a voice menu and you have to make the right choices. The best choice is "Cancel Service". Other choices lead to Customer Service which is useless for this issue. You have leverage only by requesting cancellation and making the request to the right department and barely holding off if they promise to fix it.

If people are getting close to the 30 day period (15 days in some cases) I would port out to preserve options, then port back in.

It is just the same with cable tv service and other services. You will not get decent offers until you speak to the right department and ask to cancel. There is often no way to talk to Retentions except telling a regular rep you want to cancel. Just threatening to cancel does not work as they assume you are bluffing.
