Unless I misunderstand, there is no straightforward(cost-effective) method to use a phone obtained in this manner with this BYOD plan ?

The Flex Lease has an 18 month lease requirement. It has a $21.17 per month credit for each of those 18 months.
That is correct. But it might be possible with the $25 quick start. You would have to inquire on that. Or maybe someone here knows.

Sprint data is like 90s dialup without the nostalgia. Worst company, service, and customer service... Avoid sprint like the plague.
If you want any proof, just call the customer service phone number, see if you can get a hold of a human.... You won't!

Sorry about posting twice. I didn't realize my first attempt went through. I don't know how to delete the duplicate
You are sorry because Sprint works very well for many people. If you do some research, you'll find that Sprint even beats out att and Verizon in speed tests in certain areas. But it's possible you live in a suck zone. It's not for everyone. As far as CS, try calling tmo and see what the wait time is.

Don't bother calling customer service unless you want to pay your bill, you will not get ahold a person! Worst company, service, and customer service I've ever experienced. It's not worth worth it, even for free.....avoid sprint like the plague!
any update on the expiration date?

Ah, thanks.

The lease promotion does seem to be valid with Kick-Start.
And valid for the $100 prepaid MC too.

As stated in the wiki: may end at any time. Even the reps make guesses, but in reality no one knows for sure.

I speculate Sprint is attempting to boost the number of subscribers before the TMobile merger is approved. Once the merger is approved (if ever), this plan will not be available then.

A logical assumption with the keyword being: IF.

Can you port to TMo prepaid and wait for 45 days before reporting back to sprint. Does TMo allow a number on prepaid without a balance for 45 days

I don't believe they allow it without a balance, but I'm not sure. You can do the port-out for 45 days and come back IF the offer is still available in 45 days.

Billing chat is a lot more responsive than customer service chat. Normally they cancel those instantly, no wait required.
How do you get to billing chat? I just opened up fb messenger and typed in sprint to start the chat.
